This course focuses on the advanced operation of Pro Tools in a professional music production environment. It offers technical insights into both Pro Tools hardware and software.
Prerequisites
Prior to taking the Pro Tools Music Expert certification exam, students must have successfully completed the following courses and have acquired Pro Tools Music Operator certification.

- Pro Tools 201: Pro Tools Production Essentials
- Pro Tools 210M: Pro Tools Music Production Techniques
Objectives
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Set up and install a Pro Tools system - including the ability to configure Ethernet controllers, calibrate interfaces, and troubleshoot
- Use tactile control of Pro Tools - including modifier keys, focus keys, commands focus, function keys, and keypad modes
- Perform advanced audio importing and recording - including the ability to import AAF and OMF tracks, import MXF audio, update I/O setup, create and manage template files, use and connect PRE, and connect Pro Tools to VENUE
- Perform advanced editing - including advanced MIDI, advanced multi-track drum editing, the use of Elastic Audio vs. Beat Detective, advanced Elastic Audio concepts
- Apply synchronization - including SYNC HD services and configuration, clock source selection, timecode formats in music production, use of LTC and MTC, 9-Pin machine control, and Satellite Link
- Apply Pro Tools|HD mixing concepts - including double-precision processing, headroom and footroom, dithered vs. non-dithered mixers, fixed point vs. floating point processing, jitter, the TDM mixer and DSP usage, and plug-ins and the TDM mixer
- Perform advanced mixing - including measuring and compensating for hardware insert latency, creating plug-in favorites, advanced sub-mixing and stem mixing, using Master Faders and VCA Masters, Join and AutoJoin, Latch Prime, Capture and Punch Capture
- Deliver music- including MIDI export, Sibelius export, OMF/AFF export, MXF audio export, archive and transfer sessions, and the use of DigiDelivery
