Based at Elstree Studios, this UK post house wanted a sophisticated console at a good price point. Its choice? S5 Fusion.
Avid announced today that has installed the UK's first S5 Fusion digital mixing audio system. The new 24-fader, 78-channel system with EuCon DAW control of a Pyramix digital audio workstation is housed in Theatre A at their newly opened post house located in the heart of the revamped Elstree Film Studios in Hertfordshire, England, a facility made famous by George Lucas and Star Wars.
Established 11 years ago, 2nd Sense continues to build on its strength, serving diverse markets from children's television to ground breaking TV shows such as Later with Jools Holland.
"We had pushed our current technology to the limit and needed to take a step forward especially in order to meet the growing demand for 5.1 for broadcast," explained Richard Sillitto, Senior Dubbing Mixer at 2nd Sense.
"We wanted a console with the sophistication our clients and projects demand, but at a price point that made sense. Using Pyramix as our house DAW system, we needed a console that would integrate seamlessly with this platform. This is one of the delights of the S5 Fusion," continued Sillitto. "Additionally, with our broad spectrum of clients, it's not unusual for them to bring in a different DAW and being able to accommodate them is very important to us."
Studio owner, Wendy Hewitt, is excited to expand the range of services being offered to her clients. "For a small, privately-owned facility this was a big decision. Choosing Avid as a partner had a lot to do with it not only in terms of the products, but also the people. We're confident we'll get the customer support we need to make this a success."
The S5 Fusion is a high performance digital audio mixing system specifically designed for audio post-production and music applications. Its EuCon high-speed Ethernet control protocol extends the control capabilities of the console beyond the dedicated DSP cores to the outside world, bringing any DAW tracks onto the console surface for full control during mixing.
"2nd Sense embodies what a successful 21st century audio facility should be. It not only has a diversity of clients, but also the vision to adopt new technology as it presents itself," said Mark Hosking. "It's a pleasure to install the country's first S5 Fusion into a studio that genuinely will benefit from the ability to seamlessly switch from working entirely within the DAW to handling larger traditional style sessions."
