Composer for Film, TV and Video Games

Transforming the Composition

Growing up in Central America and Europe, Pieter Schlosser fell in love with music at a very early age. His first original composition was recorded by the Latin Grammy winning group, Éditus. From there Pieter went to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he earned a double major in 'Film Scoring' and 'Music Production & Engineering'. He moved to Los Angeles in 2003 and started out as a runner at The Record Plant where he met scoring mixer Alan Meyerson, who helped him land a position at Hans Zimmer’s studio, where composer Steve Jablonsky hired him as his assistant. Initially handling the studio’s tech responsibilities, Pieter soon started contributing to Jablonsky’s projects like 'Gears of War 2', 'Friday the 13th', 'The Sims 3' and 'Desperate Housewives', as well as getting composition projects of his own. He continues to forge his solo career writing music for an array of projects including film, television, video games and records.

Command Central

My Artist Mix is connected directly to my main sequencer machine (MacPro) with Cubase where I use it to control pretty much any parameter on my plug-ins and the Cubase mixer. I usually disable any MIDI tracks and only use it to mix audio or VSTi’s, and the integration is seamless. I also use it on a second computer (G5) where I have ProTools HD. With ProTools, I use the MC Mix for level control and solo/mute for click, dialogue, temp and my main mix. I love that I can switch between workstations so quickly!

More and more it seems like composers, mixers and producers stay ‘in the box’ when producing music. Even if external hardware is used, more and more, you can control it via software. The Artist Mix is pretty ideal for this kind of work. The footprint is pretty small and the fact that it’s expandable is pretty great! Not to mention, it just looks COOL!

The Perfect Mix

I love the clean look of the unit. I think this is very important. There are a lot of things you can do with a few combinations of buttons. You aren’t totally overwhelmed by the amount of buttons like on other controllers. There’s also no other mixer/controller like the Artist Mix on the market which integrates as easily and as quickly as the Artist Mix does.

I’ve used the Artist Mix on all my projects since the unit came out. Dark Mirror, Forever Strong, Gears of War 2, Desperate Housewives, Arrhythmia, The Sims 3 VG and a new TV Series due out in the spring as well as a documentary that you’ll see during the 2010 Winter Olympics!
