Prior to joining Avid, Mr. Hernandez was the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Open Solutions Inc., a technology provider to financial institutions worldwide, which was sold in January 2013 to Fiserv, Inc for over $1 billion. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for HSBC North America Holdings, Inc., HSBC USA Inc., and ScoreBig, Inc., and is an award winning entrepreneur who has founded and advised technology organizations ranging from start-ups to large publicly traded companies. Mr. Hernandez is the author of two books, Saving the American Dream—Main Street’s Last Stand, and Too Small to Fail, numerous articles, and has received many professional distinctions for his expertise in business and technology. He has also been a featured guest on Fox Business, CNBC, ABC News, and Bloomberg TV, where he discusses technology, economics, strategic planning and globalization.
Through his private foundation, Mr. Hernandez actively supports children’s issues and advances in healthcare and education. Additionally, he is involved in a diverse range of community issues, including advancing the physical and emotional health of children, and promoting education in science. In particular, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation named Mr. Hernandez a Community Leader of the Year in honor of his many contributions to the community.
As the Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Administrative Officer at Avid, John Frederick oversees Avid's financial and administrative functions, including finance, information technology, legal, human resources, and investor relations.
Mr. Frederick is a seasoned financial executive with experience in strategic and financial planning, mergers and acquisitions, process improvement using lean and six sigma techniques and the implementation of financial systems. Before joining Avid as Chief of Staff in February 2013, Mr. Frederick was the Corporate Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Open Solutions Inc., a technology provider to financial institutions worldwide, which was acquired in January 2013 by Fiserv, Inc. Prior to Open Solutions, Mr. Frederick was the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at SafeNet, Inc.
His extensive background at diverse companies provides versatility as well as exposure to best practices in a variety of industries ranging from high-growth technology to consumer products and entertainment companies. In addition to Open Solutions and SafeNet, these companies included roles at AlliedSignal, now Honeywell, Time Warner – Six Flags, Sunbeam Corporation, Black & Decker, and Legrand North America.
Mr. Frederick earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and is a Certified Public Accountant.
As Senior Vice President of Products and Technology, Mr. Gahagan leads the company's product development and management, customer support and services, as well as manufacturing and logistics functions.
Prior to joining Avid in July 2009, Mr. Gahagan was Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Resource Management Software Group at EMC Corporation, where he and his team were responsible for providing customers with products and services that delivered best-in-class operational efficiency for IT businesses. Chris enjoyed over seven years at EMC. Most recently, Chris drove the formulation and the continued evolution of the Business Unit strategy including product development, strategic partnering and acquisition activities for all M&A phases as well as successful integration into EMC. His extensive background includes deep knowledge of software and product development, engineering, sales, marketing, and customer service.
Before EMC, Mr. Gahagan held positions as Vice President and General Manager of the Enterprise Systems Management Group at BMC and Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Sterling Software, previously Spectra Logic Corporation. Mr. Gahagan began his career as a member of the technical staff at Hewlett-Packard Company.
Mr. Gahagan holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Sciences from Colorado State University.
As Senior Vice President of Worldwide Field Operations, Jeff Rosica heads the global sales efforts for the company.
Mr. Rosica joins Avid from Grass Valley, LLC where he was most recently the Executive Vice President, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer. Mr. Rosica joined Thomson in 2001 from Philips Electronics, as part of the acquisition and merger of Grass Valley Group, Philips Broadcast and Thomson Broadcast. During his tenure at Thomson/Grass Valley, he rose to become the division head in charge of the Grass Valley division in 2008 and managed the business until its sale to Francisco Partners in late December 2010. Prior to Thomson/Grass Valley, Mr. Rosica was with Philips Broadcast from 1996 until early 2002, serving as the Vice President and General Manager of the North American business activities. Prior to that and over his professional career, he has held a number of senior positions, focused largely in the areas of general management, business development, marketing and sales.
With more than 25 years of experience in the broadcast, media and professional video and audio markets, Mr. Rosica is an industry veteran who has also garnered significant personal experience over his career in the areas of live video production and post-production.
As Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, Jennifer Smith drives all aspects of Avid’s worldwide market presence and growth, including its strategic positioning, go-to-market strategies and all marketing disciplines.
As an international marketing executive with over 15 years of experience, Ms. Smith has an extensive background in branding and positioning, marketing communications, demand generation, business development, digital marketing and partner marketing.
Ms. Smith has a reputation for inspiring creativity and implementing measurable, high-performing initiatives in both large and medium-sized organizations. She joins Avid from Progress Software, where she was most recently the company’s Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President, and where she led a successful re-branding initiative. Before Progress Software, she held marketing leadership positions at several major software companies in Europe, including Information Builders, Peoplesoft and Microsoft.
Throughout her career, one of Ms. Smith’s driving philosophies has been to create tight alignment among marketing, product, and sales teams to bring demonstrable value to customers and partners.
Having lived in UK, Germany and Switzerland, she currently resides in Massachusetts, US, and holds a bachelor’s degree from Brunel University Business School, UK.
As Senior Vice President of Customer Success and Professional Services, Rick Lowenstein is responsible for driving customer engagement and increasing customer service levels.
Mr. Lowenstein has an extensive background in strategy development and business operations at software and technology companies of all sizes and stages of maturity from startup to Fortune 500. Prior to joining Avid in 2014, Mr. Lowenstein was Vice President of Consulting for Adobe Systems, where he managed the Americas enterprise consulting practice for all Digital Marketing products. Before Adobe, Mr. Lowenstein held positions as Executive Vice President of Global Services for Deltek; and Vice President of Professional Services for Agile Software, Workscape and PeopleSoft.
Mr. Lowenstein holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from the University of Florida.
As Senior Vice President of Human Resources, Jay Blackington is responsible for developing and executing the company’s human resources strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization. Mr. Blackington provides leadership that drives the company’s continual cultural transformation, which is focused on building and strengthening Avid’s talent and organization around the world. His responsibilities include talent acquisition and management, organization and succession planning, cultural change, executive, leadership, and employee development, total rewards, and all of the people-related aspects of acquisition integration.
Mr. Blackington has an extensive background in leading world class, high performing HR organizations that help accelerate business performance and growth. Prior to joining Avid, Mr. Blackington was Vice President of Human Resources at EMC Corporation, where he led HR for several EMC business lines, including its Global Centers of Excellence located in India, China, Russia, Israel, Egypt, Ireland, Durham and Salt Lake City, Information Technology organization and Corporate Consulting. In his leadership roles at EMC, Mr. Blackington partnered and consulted with global leaders for Worldwide Sales, the RSA Security Division, Global Alliances, and the G&A teams including Finance and Legal organizations. Before EMC, Mr. Blackington was a global leader living and working internationally at multi-national corporations including Honeywell, ITT Sheraton, Monsanto, First Data Corporation and the State Street Corporation.
Mr. Blackington holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management from the University of Massachusetts, and a master’s degree in Business Management from Lesley College in Boston. He has also completed the Advanced Human Resource Executive Program at the Stephen Ross Business School, University of Michigan.
As Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Mr. Duva is responsible for overseeing the company’s legal affairs.
Mr. Duva joined Avid in 2005 as Corporate Counsel and since 2008 has served as Assistant General Counsel. Prior to joining Avid, Mr. Duva worked at the Boston firm Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, where he represented numerous hardware, software, and entertainment companies, along with individual artists and arts organizations.
Mr. Duva holds a Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brown University. Mr. Duva has been a Pro Tools enthusiast since its first release, having discovered it while studying at the university’s McColl Studios for Electronic Music.
As Vice President of Supply and Hardware Technologies, Mr. Yaung leads a team focused on hardware development to timely delivery of high-quality products to the marketplace, while minimizing the associated costs. Mr. Yaung comes to Avid with more than 25 years of experience in manufacturing and supply chain and has extensive experience working with complex products and global operations. Mr. Yaung joins us from Apple where he managed a global team responsible for the manufacture of key Apple products, including the Mac Book product family. Prior to Apple, Mr. Yaung held key leadership positions at Celestica and Sun Microsystems. Mr. Yaung has also spent significant time in Asia.
Mr. Yaung holds a Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from San Jose State University.
