Though it resembles and functions like a traditional analog surface, the S5 Fusion control surface gives you more power and flexibility to mix faster and easier than ever. You can customize the surface for your project needs—from 8–56 channel strips. Each channel strip includes a multiformat, motorized fader, as well as eight touch-sensitive knobs for EQ, filter, compressor, expander/gate, Aux sends, and pan control, that you can also use to control DAW functions, including adjusting TDM, VST, and Audio Units plug-in parameters. Gain complete control of your mix using the master module and one that houses a display for the eMix software and twin joysticks. Gain custom control

Bring what’s important closer to you. With Layouts, you can quickly access what you need by saving the position of sources on the surface at any given time for later recall. Always have the most important sources within easy reach by saving different Layouts—whether you want to save/recall settings across the entire desk or only with certain strips. And with Control Groups, you can control any number of faders from a single strip.

Jump to different mix states

Freely experiment without fear of commitment, or isolate specific channels for easier fine-tuning. With SnapShot Recall, you can store all current console settings as a SnapShot for recall at any time, making it easy to jump to any past mixing state of one or multiple channels. You can choose and later edit the parameters in any given SnapShot—from saving every setting across all channels, a single channel, or maybe just the EQ or pan settings on a single channel—and name them for easy identification. You can save up to 240 SnapShots per Title (project), all of which will be accessible whenever you reload that Title.

Automate with precision

As S5 Fusion is a fully digital console, it’s designed with Total Automation for high-precision mixing. You can dynamically automate changes to almost every parameter on the console to time code, including volumes, EQ, pans, Aux sends, dynamics, processor in/out, and fader on/off. With motorized, touch-sensitive controls, you can write changes the minute you touch a fader or knob, with all automation moves displayed on the unique illuminated displays during playback, and automation statuses displayed on the dedicated LEDs. Each switch that can be automated has its own automation punch key. Use the dedicated automation keys in the center of the console to select objects for automation and the object status. You can write automation in small discrete sections to handle detailed post work, or as continuous moves throughout the length of your project.

S5 Fusion is powered by the SC264D studio computer, which provides machine control and dedicated, expandable DSP channels to the console—each with EQ and dynamics processing, delay, and surround panning to multiformat mix, group, and Aux busses. Running eMix software, you can set up and customize the system, manage files, and perform diagnostics from the console. It also includes PatchNet, a powerful digital patching system that enables you to route all console inputs and outputs—unlike a traditional patchbay, you can store and recall every single patch that you make. Add additional DSP cards to the computer to increase your channel and bus counts—all of which you can reconfigure to suit your needs using eMix.

What elevates S5 Fusion above other mixing systems is EUCON Hybrid. With the EUCON control protocol, you can take deep, tightly integrated tactile control of an application over high-speed Ethernet—Pro Tools 9, Logic Pro, Pyramix, Nuendo, Digital Performer, and other DAWs all directly support EUCON. With EUCON Hybrid, included with S5 Fusion, you get extended console control capabilities—beyond the dedicated DSP cards—to the outside world, bringing DAW tracks from multiple workstations onto the console surface for mixing

You can select, place, and control tracks on the S5 Fusion surface from any DAW running the EUCON Client Application on your network. Position tracks anywhere you want on the surface. You can even place multiple tracks from separate DAWs in any order on the surface, simultaneously, next to the S5 Fusion DSP channels. You can then save these channel placements as Layouts for easy access and organization —for example, you can have one Layout for DSP channels, one for Pro Tools, and one with combinations from multiple DAWs. This greatly extends the capability of the console, enabling you to access DAW tracks that would otherwise be available only as traditional playback sources. With EUCON Hybrid, it’s now possible to have direct, high-speed access to any of these tracks, their plug-ins, and metering.

Route and patch audio using industry-standard MADI connectivity, a very stable and robust AES-sanctioned format that delivers up to 64 digital audio channels (at 24-bit, 48kHz) along a single coaxial cable. S5 Fusion includes an I/O interface that provides four MADI inputs and outputs (256 x 256 audio channels), and can be expanded to support up to 512 audio I/O channels. Because the system is modular, you can customize your I/O with a full range of high-quality Avid converters—both analog and digital—to meet your needs now and in the future.
