    relink

    maybe someone can help me out?!

    i edited some material at home and consolidated the whole stuff on an external drive for color-corecction.
    i did the cc right on another machine, that's why the consolidating.

    now coming home and want to relink me corected timeline to the "full" material.
    is there a way or am I wrong, using the relink for it?
    tryed it several times with different methods, but it didn't work.

    thx in advance

    Have you tried unlinking first???  I have the most success with this operation (and I do it A LOT) when I unlink (hold Ctrl Shift then relink in the menu becomes Unlink) the timeline first.  Once it's all offline, it usually relinks.  Also check that all the filtering-type otions are disbled (only media from project and all those other things in the relink screen).

    Re: relink

    Did you consolidate the sequence and create a new sequence at the same time? If so, then your color corrected timeline contains new master clips, which are only parts of the original media. That's why relinking doesn't work in this case, I think.

    To make this thing work you should have consolidated the original master clips and use a copy of the timeline to make the cc. That sequence would find it's original media even without relinking.

    Re: relink

    the color correction is saved as effects within the sequence and not something that is saved to the media file.  You need to be using the copy of the sequence that you did the cc on .

    thank you all for your help, i will try it out that evening.

    @ravidedit:
    I know that it is saved in my timeline, that's the reasen for my wish to relink, but unless it's working, i need the consolidated media

    @xeri
    that's the same like copying the whole projekt and omfi-files, but i didn't want to copy and transport 80gb instead of 7gb, just needed for my timeline...

    That's why your sequence is made of new master clips now, and not the original ones. In Avid DS your method would work because it identifies media by the tape name and the timecode, and also you can have a master clip which is partially online only. But I don't think XP will let you do this. It would have to relink the new master clips to older media files as if the master clips were subclips only, but they are not.

    Good luck anyway Smile [:)]

    long time ago ...

    well it worked!
    slasherjohn was right, i have had to unlink my sequence and when all was offline i cut relink it again to the full material.
    thanx to all.

    arrrgghhh.
    this project is driving me crazy!
    i wasn't editing this project for over a week, cause it has been to audio-recording and mixing.
    yesterday i opened my relinked timeline (witch cc and my relinked masterclips) again and while looking around, i was wondering a lot!
    man it mixed all my shots! i'm sure that i named my tapes very well, cause there are at least 3 or 4 of them in this project, i keep my omfi-folders very clean, for each project one omfi-folder.
    what's going on?
    i have to look very carefully what could be the reason for it! if there are some experiences for it, tell me.

    i'll keep you up to date when i will know more about it ....

    Sad [:(]  phil

    Re: relink

    Did you check your sequence after relinking? So did relink mess things up, or did something strange happen during the weekend?
