Well sort of....... It seems the Quicktime playback codecs that Avid places in the Quicktime components folder inside Quicktime are the problem. After a lot of testing this is what I've come up with, works for Quicktime 7.04 as well as 6.5.2.
First download a different version of the Avid playback codecs other than what 5.2.4 installs or that is in the AvidCodecsLE version that comes with 5.2.4:
I used this version for the test:
Avid Quicktime Codecs LE 1.01

All you have to do is install these codecs and delete the ones installed when you installed Avid in the Quicktime components folder inside of Quicktime, by default these will go to your Windows/system32 folder. You can just leave them there, or copy and paste them into your Quicktime components folder overwriting the other ones.
I copied the originals that Avid 5.2.4 installed and placed them in a New folder so Quicktime would not see them and I could go back if I needed..
Now you should have smooth playback with either a Quicktime Ref file or a Quicktime MOV file using the Avid DV codec when exporting from Avid 5.2.4
As of yet I have not seen any problems replacing these playback codecs within Quicktime.
The current version of the Avid codec that installs with 5.2.4 is 1.1.0.6
The "replacement" is version 1.0.0.1
If someone could come up with a version that may be a little closer to the current version that would also provide smooth playback in Quicktime please post it. Thanks

Okay, so I know I'm probably being thick here but I downloaded the AvidCodecs.zip file and extracted the files, opened up AvideCodecsLE.pkd, then contents, so where is the install file for the codecs?
The resources folder has several files like AvidCodecs.bom .pax .sizes but nothing that indicates an .exe file for installation?
Someone please give me a clue here - sorry I'm brain dead !!!!!
Hi - unfortunately the link to LE 1.01 codecs is now dead - i can only see 1.2.x.
Will this still work?
Maybe i'm being thick, but i am confused as to exactly what steps to take. If I install the 1.2.0 codecs, where does this install the files on my PC? do i then need to copy them into the QPcomponents folder?
someone please help???
