Adding filler at end of sequence.

I posted this to another thread but a lot of people don't know this trick so I thought I'd repost it here:

For those of you who need to add black filler at the end of sequences (I agree there should be an easier option)...

You don't need to import black or make a title or use audio, just add an edit on a blank audio or video track at the end of your sequence, enter trim mode on just that track, and drag out as much black filler as you need.

Great Trick, what I have been doing is shoot 30 seconds of black at the end of Tape one of every project with no audio and then cut a piece in where needed. Fast and easy. It also gives you some breathing room at the end of captures.

Yikes, I thought everyone knew that? I learned that in my first week of learning Avid.

Isn't it weird all the different things we do and don't know?

I dont like to have any blank gaps in the timeline. This keeps me from running into problems on export.

Instead, I insert a black tiff file made from Photoshop.

I guess everyone has there own way of doing things.

When I need a frame of solid colour, I tend to use the Title Tool, it's easy, right there, and it can be rerendered easily if the media goes offline or it gets moved ot another suite.

I second that. I also have had problems exporting a sequence with blanks at the end of the sequence. A black title doesn't have this problem.

Re: Adding filler at end of sequence.

I third that.  I always go to the Title Tool for a colored matte (a trick Dom Silverio taught me a few years ago), but I used to render out black video in AE and cut that into the timeline before that.  The matte created in the title tool is quicker for me and the end result is just as good.

I also have run into problems when Digital Cutting with blank gaps at the end of my timeline.

One of the first things I do on a project is import a black jpeg and keep it in my graphics bin.

Re: Adding filler at end of sequence.

You could save yourself a few seconds if you import it once and then just copy the bin into a new project each time.

Yeah... but I've gotten in trouble copying clips from one project's bins to another and then moving media files, consolidating - I'd rather have fresh media for each project that belongs solely to that project. As you say, it's only a few seconds vs. a major headache when I consolidate the original project, forget the media is shared, and then get "MEDIA OFFLINE" on the project that used the shared media.
