I posted this to another thread but a lot of people don't know this trick so I thought I'd repost it here:
For those of you who need to add black filler at the end of sequences (I agree there should be an easier option)...
You don't need to import black or make a title or use audio, just add an edit on a blank audio or video track at the end of your sequence, enter trim mode on just that track, and drag out as much black filler as you need.

I third that. I always go to the Title Tool for a colored matte (a trick Dom Silverio taught me a few years ago), but I used to render out black video in AE and cut that into the timeline before that. The matte created in the title tool is quicker for me and the end result is just as good.
I also have run into problems when Digital Cutting with blank gaps at the end of my timeline.
I think my memory sucks, but I forget.
