Does anyone know a website that will upload & host a large video file?

I have a short film that i just finished. I would like to upload it to a site that would host it like Youtube.com but that site like most others only allows up to 100MB my short is 253MB. (I do not have a site of my own yet). I would love to find a site that would do this with no problem. For now i am using Yousendit.com to send my large files but if anyone use it you know it takes like 1 hour 1/2 or 2 to send files.

    I'd appreciate a response... Thanks

    Box.net is what you're after.

Also if you get a Director account at YouTube you can upload bigger files. They're free, you just have to apply.

Thanks, I signed on to Box.net but would that site create a link to a webpage and  show the video on that webpage like youtube does?

Sounds like you need to develop your own website (with lots of bandwidth and storage)... then you will be able to post your videos.

The suggestions offered are usually for just transferring large files from one person to another. They are not intended mass ("blind") distribution like YouTube or GoogleVideo.

So purchase a domain and loads of storage/server space/bandwidth and then provide streaming links to your videos. I can honestly tell you that files as large as what you say you have are going to take a long time to download before someone can even watch them... personally, I generally don't wait more than a couple secs before closing out a link that appears to be taking too long to download or begin playing, I don't feel that I'm alone in that practice. Just something to keep in mind when you're uploading things to the web.

Web distribution is great, but you have to sacrifice picture/audio quality, and viewers accept the loss of qualtiy as well.

How long is short?  We compress 10 minute videos and put them on our website for the clients to download and use in presentations, and we get them down to below 50MB.  I would never download a file as large as your short, I dont think not many people would, (unless they were your mum).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I haven't compressed the short. It's only 3:33 minutes long. When i exported it to Quicktime the quality is fine but not as great,  you could see little lines through out the movie. It's not completely clear. I figured if i compressed the quality will get worse. What do you think?

Re: Does anyone know a website that will upload & host a large video file?

How are you viewing it?  what frame size have you used, what is your data rate?, that is a big file size for a short movie on the web.Y ou need to look into encoding techniques,  I dont think there is an easy way except to do a lot of trials, and trey and work out how other people have done it.  A 3 minute video wont take too long to encode so just try out different settings.  Ah - theres a thought, what encoder are you using?  Try creating a wmv or flv, and play around with the settings.

    Good luck.

New year, new website needed - what are people using to make theirs? Any preferences, dos and don'ts very gratefully received.
(I used Front Page about 5 years ago for my existing but ancient site and now I find they don't even make it any more. A Flash developer friend warned me off Microsoft's Expression Web and recommends Dreamweaver, but I'm worried it's too complex and might not be worth the money for what I need. Yet the ready-mades some hosters offer seem fairly clunky.)
Thanks for any input at all!

Check out www.vimeo.com . You can upload 500mb every week in a single file. No time limit on the video either. I recently placed a 56 minute video there in fairly high quality. You can also upload HD material for viewing in HD. And, of course, it is free.

For free/cheap... with some knowledge of html required... try Coffee Cup -- google it for free downloads.

Otherwise, I recommend "industry standards" DreamWeaver and/or Flash.

    Re: website design

I agree with Adman on the dreamweaver part.. although you need to sit down and make the time. I spend so many hours trying to get it right. The worst of it all is the browser compatability.. it looks great in IE and then all messed up in firefox or Safari or ... or... hell and beyond Smile

Susi, if you can find a webhost that will offer PHP and my- or ms-sql you can have a look at Joomla ... you can choose, design or let someone design a template, add extra's like video plug ins etc.. all done with a pretty easy to use web interface. It is more a content management system (and a good one) ... pretty cool and thebest part... it is all for free and no web building software required besides a recent browser and some creativity.

    Re: website design

I agree with Menno that Joomla! is a nice pice of software. But if You have no experience of programming in php and databases, You need someone who help You set it up and make templates. After that, it is easy to expand and add text and videos.

Dreamweaver is good if You do not plan do change You website often, just add some videos or change some text ones a month. It is easier if You do not have any experience of programming and programming in php. Together with Contribute You can build websites which is easy to maintain.

I use Joomla! on my website, but also Dreamweaver for develop templates and plug-ins to Joomla!. Dreamweaver is included in Adobes CS3 web and designer bundles so why not use it if it is there.

I don't know much about this, but I have enjoyed watching short films on Atom Films.  They usually look pretty good.

For the BEST quality check out www.stage6.com

The only negative is that the DIVX web player is required. But the video is the best webvideo by far I have seen.
