Tommorow everyone will be back from their vacations. There are stilll things we do not know and remain a mystery. IMHO, This does not benefit Avid.
A few questions for the new year:
1. Will current versions of Avid Xpress Pro and Composer support 720p PAL?
2. Will the next version support both 720p/25 and 720p/50 or just 720p/50 (at least to begin with)?
3. Will PAL users patiently waiting for the upgrade that NTSC users already got get a discount on the upgrade?
4. What is the timeframe for release of these updates?
I do not post these questions for Avid people who participate in this forum. I know they will not answer due to some form of NDA or job related restrictions. I do think that Avid should answer these questions publicly, outside the forum, and put whatever legal disclaimers on their answers if things shift due to anything.
The requested features are already available with other NLEs. Some NLEs already have a second more mature version of their support for 720p PAL and others soon will. I don't see how announcing new features will hurt Avid any, especially since it is a latecomer.
For now, wild speculation and unconfirmed rumours give us these answers:
[EDITED DUE TO SPECULATION]
Again, these specualtions have not been confirmed in any way or form by any Avid employee or beta tester. They are all deductions from bits and pieces of information mentioned in this forum and from things not said. I remind you that we already had some speculation such as this before (remember Q4?) so do NOT rely or make decisions based on this. If you do so I take no responsibility for this whatsoever.

Would that be Q4 last year or the year before ?
"Do not speculate on Avid decisions or products that have not been released, issues with repair procedures, or Avid policies and procedures."
The real quesion is did I mean Q4 2006 or Q4 2007.
Bitterness is so easy.
You know the saying about desperate times ;(
In the absence of hard information, speculation is bound to be rife. The question is, how much of it finds its way onto these boards, despite the forum rules.

Panos: Sorry but there is no way that we do not speculate a bit on the speculations... Panosb PAL and inferior format speculator
Huh?
Well atlhough this thread seems to have gone quiet, maybe its time to stir it up a bit. I was talking to a very nice avid reseller from London. Appparently the avid R & D peopel are all working hard and are determined to get this support out to us as soon as they can. There might be something in a 'revision' due out in Q1, ie end of March, but only if it works. Well thats about as vague as ever.
Meanwhile I am going to aquaint myself with our new Premiere/Matrox set up which if nothing else, supports 720p/25. I'm not looking forward to the experience, and I am very disheartened about the waste of time and money that the sorry mismanagement, shoddy business strategies and disdain that Avid appears to show for PAL users, but its got to be done.
I hope to be back with Avid in the near future, (although maybe you dont deserve me) but it feels like I am reluctantly having to bail. I will still use my Avid for small, cheap, something and nothing projects, but Premiere is going to be used for the prestigious work. I hope that hurts someones pride at Avid.

Sigh. Maybe one day we'll have an Avid based HD workflow.
I'd ask for a solid date, given we've been owed one for a long time, but I know they aint gunna give us one, cos they seem completely unable to deliver anyway.
