Error - Capture aborted due to discontinuity in timecode

I am having problems digitizing with timecode.  Whenever I try to capture I get the following error: "Exception: Capture aborted due to discontinuity in timecode."

I am using Xpress Pro 4.8.4 and trying to capture from a Sony HVR-10MU.  The CPU is a G5 Quad running OS 10.4.4.  The deck is hooked up firewire through a Mojo.  There is no RS 422 option on the deck.

I have also tried running it through a Powerbook G4 1.5 running OS 10.4.8 and Xpress Pro 5.6.4 with the same results.

Can this be a firewire issue?  A tape problem?  Is there a work-around?

    Thanks.

the Knowledge Base has a few articles on problems capturing with that deck

Thanks, but I don't see anything in these articles that would solve my problem.  I can, in fact, capture picture and track if timecode is de-selected.

so maybe you do have timecode problems on the tape.  Is this happening with any tape you play from this deck or is it just one tape?  I have you tried playing with the capture settings so it's set to capture across timecode breaks etc?

I have tried other tapes, both HDV and DV, with the same result.  The capture settings are set to digitize across timecode breaks.

Have you tried it going direct to the firewire port on your computer and not through the Mojo?

what type of material is this?  Is is HDV , what frame rate, are you trying to capture HDV or downcoverted DV?

Yes, I've tried going directly into the firewire port, but Xpress Pro does not see the material.  It is HDV.  Can it simply be that the project is 29.97 and the tape is shot 23.98, and therefore the timecode is incompatible?

Re: Error - Capture aborted due to discontinuity in timecode

yes.  You can't capture 23.98 footage into a 30i project.  And I just looked at Sony's website and it from what I can see that deck doesn't playback 23.97 material.  The playback formats are:  1080/60i, 1080/50i, 480/60i, 576/50i, 480/60p and 576/50p so you will need a different deck and a 23.97 project to capture 23.97 material

Re: Error - Capture aborted due to discontinuity in timecode

This is getting somewhat confusing. I shall attempt to clarify some points:

First off, you can't do anything with HDV with 4.8.4, you'll have to use the DV down conversion out of the deck and bring the material into a SD project.

HDV doesn't go through a Mojo. Ever.

So, what camera did you use to capture the 24p material? Was it HDV? If so, it was captured at a 60i rate. How is the playback set up to output the material as SD over firewire?
MacPro, MacBook Pro and a Cube. The Cube doesn't do much but it looks cool. [view my complete system specs]
Must think of something clever to go here...

Re: Error - Capture aborted due to discontinuity in timecode

In the end I was able to capture this material playing back out of the camera (Sony HVR-Z1U).  The camera was able to down convert the HD (60i) to SD.  The deck (Sony HVR-M10U) should have  the ability to do the down convert as well but I was unable to get this working properly, likely due to a setting that either did not respond to my request to down convert or simply due to my mis-reading the settings menu.  Interestingly, I could not even digitize SD material using this deck, so there must have been an HD signal being sent to the Mojo.
