    ScriptSync is simply awesome

So I've been one of the folks complaining about the cost difference between MC Soft, and MCA for the past few days; and I'll continue to do so, 'cause it's just not good business practice for Avid to screw us like that.

However, now that I have my upgrade to MC2.7, I've been playing with the ScriptSync feature and it's absolutely the coolest feature I've ever seen in an editing package. As a feature film editor, I'm gonna love this. In fact, because of this very feature I might upgrade my XPro dongle to MC Soft as well.

This has the possibility of being Avid's "killer feature" that nobody else can touch. It's really cool.

I think if you're doing documentary work and have text transcripts of your tapes, this could be a priceless tool as well. Simply make a new script bin for each tape's transcript and let the software log all your takes for you. Amazing!!!!

Oh spread the word!! I totally agree. FCP has nothing even close. I've been using Scriptsync exclusively instead of bins for the last 5 years, much to the chagrin of my assistants who've had to set it up manually. I personally invested in 2.5 primarily because of the speech recognition upgrade promised a year ago and have waited and posted since then trying to find out when it'd be released. I recently learned there was no good reason for this delay - it's just been back-burnered for other developments.

I'm not sure why more editors haven't used it - perhaps thinking it required too much set up. But I've managed to incorporate it into the demanding delivery schedules of all my TV projects. Remarkably, until 2.7, it's functioned essentially unchanged since it was introduced at least as far back as ABVB v6.x.

Keep playing with it Chris and review these forums for additional tips. Despite the speech recognition, it's still a seriously underdeveloped tool that could be improved even further with little effort or difficulty. If enough editors like us get hooked, maybe we can convince Avid to elevate it to its full potential (before FCP does).
