    Resize / Blowup Dv Footage

Hello, I'm working on a low-budget 16x9 short film in Media Composer that was shot on DV, and the director and I are unhappy with the framing of many shots. In some extremely poor framing circumstances i've applied a 3d warp and just scaled the image.

My question is; I'd like to do major resizing on many shots and there is an obvious loss of quality apparent (even at the 10:1 rez im working at), so im wondering if there is a way for me to keep the resolution decent and adjust the frame/push in on the shots?

    Thanks.

There is no easy solution to this as you will lose resolution when you blow up the shot. However, in the film caategory in your effects pallette, there should be an effect called blowup that is much better at scaling than 3D warp is. You might try that.

Is the "blowup FX" action technically different to the "3D warp FX" ?

What implies "much better" at scaling ?

    Thanks for answer BLKDOG !

It actually is a lot better. I don't think it does anything special really, I think it's just that the 3D warp is really crappy.

Re: Resize / Blowup Dv Footage

    derek,

I use the re-size effect to enlarge images. If you're working in a letterbox, you'll have to apply a 16:9 mask over the top to retain the aspect ratio. When you enter the 3d fx tool, for some technical reason I can't explain, you'll lose resolution more so than if you stay in the 2d fx mode.

Also, 10:1 will exaggerate the loss of resolution because it's so pixelated to begin with. I think you'll see less degradation if you redig at 2:1 or 1:1.
