Each ISIS Engine has integrated switching. There is no requirement for an external switch - just one cable running from the storage to the client.

Benefit
Integrated switching makes setup and support extremely simple, even for the smallest workgroups. Also, unlike typical SANs, there is no need for a secondary network to support metadata - data and metadata are all handled on a single network connection.
