Work faster and more easily

Create intuitively with the streamlined interface

Taking the needs and approach of today’s graphic and 3D artists in mind, we’ve modernized the interface from 3Designer to provide a more intuitive and customized experience in Maestro | Designer. That said, we made sure to maintain existing workflows, so if you have 3Designer, you’ll feel right at home when you upgrade. This new interface takes full advantage of 64-bit Microsoft environments, providing even greater power. And it offers tons of user-requested UI improvements.

Boost efficiency with advanced tools and features

Along with the 64-bit performance boost, you also get revved up functionality. Maximize efficiency with the rebuilt and enhanced Expression Editor, which now offers color-coding, auto-complete, error checking, and data path connections functionality. Manage objects and scenes more easily with the Batch Renaming tool. Resize and wrap text box copy. Create mirrored environments easily with Mirror Geometry. Group objects fast with a shortcut. And so much more.

Simplify communication

Provide direction and other important information through notes that designers can attach to any object or to the scene for other designers working on the same project. It’s also a great way to provide embedded feedback during the review and approval process.

Work with intelligent templates

Repurposing content is key to maximizing efficiency. Maestro | Designer makes it easy using graphics templates. Each can have “exported” elements that can be updated quickly and dynamically during production—from text captions and live video feeds, to textures, chart bars, audio sources, and other data. You can also crunch large volumes of data easily by using data connections and statistical functions on different values—ideal for updating financial and election graphics.

Empower artists

Create sophisticated content

Getting that high-end look is easier than ever. Work with virtual studios more efficiently using up to four camera views. Create complex shapes with new SuperCube, SuperTetra, and SuperNGon primitives. Dynamically generate and animate textures elements—such as gradients, lines, cross-hatching, and checkers—with procedural textures built into RenderEngine7. And add high-quality motion blur to animations without pre-rendering.

Gain more masking flexibility

With the new “per object” mask, you can quickly mask a single object without affecting all other objects in the scene, making it easy to crop out elements. And with mask groups, you can assign masks to different objects, effectively allowing an unlimited number of masks to exist within a scene.

Bring content to life with animation

Design cool effects, motion graphics, or alter the look of an object over time. With easy-to-use animation tools, you can set keyframes along the timeline with just a click. The expanded animation window features both “dope sheet” and “curves” timeline views, so you can edit your work in a familiar environment. You can even create events that cascade through the scene—triggered by animation playback—without scripting. Or add multiple tickers that run simultaneously.

Compose graphics quickly with built-in assets

Assets are the building blocks of any template. These include 2D and 3D object primitives, textures, predefined materials, fonts, effects, and other elements. You can use and modify any combination and number of elements to create a wide range of high-quality static or animated graphics for just about every need. You can even map live video and clips directly onto scene objects, opening up new possibilities for 3D video transitions.

Make graphics pop with high-end effects

Whether you’re looking to bring realism to a virtual world or want to grab a viewer’s attention, a whole suite of effects tools awaits. Add real-time motion blur to objects in action. Build depth of field into a virtual studio environment. Add realistic texture to 3D objects with the material library. And create and animate effects in real time with shaders—from simple sepia toning, edge detection, and luminance filtering, to complex morphing and warping.

Get unlimited creativity

Whether you work with 2D content or 3D graphics, you’ll feel at home with Maestro | Designer. Unleash your creativity with unlimited 2D and 3D layers. View your work with the adaptive preview, which supports up to 16K video wall resolutions—without dedicated rendering hardware. And get robust 2D/3D text handling, including effect animations, counters, and emoticons.

Collaborate easily

Thanks to the intuitive object tree workflow, you can manage even the most complex templates easily. Take any template element—from a single object to a complete set of layers—from the Maestro | Designer object tree to your Avid asset management system and then share it with other artists in the studio for easy collaboration.

Design in any resolution

Maestro | Designer offers resolution independent authoring, so you can create graphics in any format and aspect ratio. View safe areas for 4:3 and 16:9, with layout options for cropping, scaling, and alignment. Access multiple views for visualizing complex 3D environments. You can even view extreme aspect ratios when designing for video walls—without the need for hardware. Plus, text will always look sharp—no matter the resolution—thanks to unique font-rendering features.

Control playback with Master Animation tools

Take command of complex scenes with new tools that enable you to control multiple animation groups from a single timeline. Fully cover all animation playback production requirements by simply creating multiple “Master Animations,” which minimize the prep work needed in the control surfaces. In addition, you can also precisely set when an external data export will be sent to a scene using Timeline Export.
