NYC's The Juilliard School Chooses Avid
In order to teach students the cutting-edge workflows they need to succeed in today’s media industry, Manhattan’s Juilliard School— the most elite performing arts conservatory in the United States—recently installed a System 5 MC in the Mix Room of its newly renovated Music Technology Suite.
The System 5-MC controls Logic and Final Cut Pro and is used to track, mix music as well as to teach audio engineering to students from a variety of it school programs including Music Production and Recording, Film Scoring, Composition, Drama, and Dance.
The most versatile and customizable console
“Juilliard officials recognized the importance of the Music Tech Program and committed resources to it,” says Will Fastenow, Technical Director of the Music Technology Program at The Julliard School. “Thanks to generous donations and various grants, we were able to complete a massive renovation of the Music Technology Suite, which grew from one small room to three-room complex including a control room, a mix room and a rehearsal studio.”
“I did a lot of research and the System [5-MC] was not only the most versatile and customizable console for our program but also the most straight forward for our students and faculty,” Fastenow explains. “With its ability to control multiple software applications almost instantaneously, the System 5-MC can be adapted for each individual user and school (program) it proving to me that the MC Pro can handle the breadth of the rigorous Juilliard program”.

Preparing students for the workforce
“Our students realize they need both the talent and the technical chops to make it in the music business today,” Fastenow says. “With the System 5-MC as the centerpiece of our improved and enhanced Music Technology Program, our students will not only be better educated in, but also be better prepared."

The Juilliard School provides the highest caliber of artistic education for gifted musicians, dancers, and actors from around the world. The first project the System 5-MC will be used on is a multi-media piece for a show scheduled in October. The console will be used in all facets of the production from pre-production, to recording, to mixing and post.
“We just went online in the last few weeks but, so far, the system has already met and exceeded my expectations,” concludes Fastenow.
