Avid® (OTC: AVID) today celebrates the many Avid customers recognized for their craft as nominees and winners at the 86th Academy Awards®, the world’s most prestigious ceremony honoring film industry professionals. Films created using Avid’s industry-leading professional content creation solutions include Best Picture Award winner 12 Years a Slave and nominees,American Hustle, Captain Phillips, Gravity and Nebraska. In the Best Editing category, four out of the five nominated editors cut their movies with Avid Media Composer®, which provides the deepest set of creative tools refined by professionals across the post-production industry. The winners were Alfonso Cuarón and Mark Sanger forGravity, while fellow nominees Jay Cassidy, Crispin Struthers and Alan Baumgarten for American Hustle, Christopher Rouse for Captain Phillips,and Joe Walker for 12 Years a Slave, also relied on Media Composer.
Best Sound Editing winner Glenn Freemantle and Best Sound Mixing winners, Skip Lievsay, Niv Adiri, Christopher Benstead and Chris Munro used Avid Pro Tools®, the industry’s preeminent digital audio workstation, to edit and mix the audio for Gravity. Other audio nominees include Andy Koyama, Beau Borders and David Brownlow, who used Avid’s System 5® control surface for Best Sound Mixing nominee Lone Survivor.
In the Best Original Song category, Pro Tools was used to create winner Let It Go from Frozen(Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez) and nominee Happy from Despicable Me 2 (Pharrell Williams). Users of Sibelius® music notation software nominated for Best Original Score include John Williams for The Book Thief, Owen Pallett for Her, Alexandre Desplat for Philomena, and Thomas Newman for Saving Mr. Banks.
