Burlington, MA, 21/09/2015

Avid Everywhere enables television’s top creative professionals to create high-quality programs recognized by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences

Avid® (Nasdaq: AVID) today congratulates its customers on their awards and nominations at the prestigious Primetime Creative Arts Emmy® Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). As part of the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, the creative arts awards honor the behind-the-scenes crafts essential to television production.

Avid customers embraced Avid Everywhere™ to create Primetime Emmy Award-winning and nominated productions including Game of Thrones, Better Call Saul, The Big Bang Theory and Sonic Highways, relying on Avid Artist Suite audio and video applications, powered by the Avid MediaCentral™ Platform, to bring their creative visions to the TV screen.

The picture editing, sound editing, and sound mixing teams behind Game of Thrones relied on Avid Artist Suite audio and video solutions to create the hit series. Editors Tim Porter and Katie Weiland, who won the award for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series, relied on the industry’s foremost editing solution Avid Media Composer® to cut the series.

Sound post-production company, Formosa Group, who scored two awards for their work on the series, relied on the industry-standard digital audio workstation Avid Pro Tools® for both sound editing and mixing. Supervising sound editor Tim Kimmel took home the award for Outstanding Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama Series, while re-recording mixers Onnalee Blank and Mathew Waters won the award for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama Series.

"Game of Thrones relies solely on Pro Tools for the sound editorial and mix,” said Kimmel. “Sound editorial on the show is done in multiple countries, so having a platform that’s so easy to use—and widely recognized as the industry standard—makes this international collaboration much easier. Pro Tools' vast array of plugins, ability to handle massive amounts of tracks, and easily configured session layouts are essential to getting this show sounding great, and done on time.”

The picture editing and sound mixing teams behind Better Call Saul alsorelied on Artist Suite audio and video solutions to create the hit series, scoring nominations for Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama.

Editors Kelly Dixon and Chris McCaleb cut the series using Media Composer. “On any project I'm working on, I never need to question Avid Media Composer's ability to handle whatever I throw at it,” said Dixon. “Whether it be subtle dramatic editing or artistic montages on Better Call Saul, I'm always confident I can tell the exact story I want with complete and ultra-fine levels of manipulation.”

Sound mixers Phillip W. Palmer, Larry Benjamin and Kevin Valentine used Avid Pro Tools | HDX for sound editing and mixing on the show. “We love working on Better Call Saul because the producers are very collaborative and give us creative freedom to experiment,” said Re-recording Mixer Benjamin. “We rely on Pro Tools | HDX not only as our editorial engine but as our mix engine, giving us the flexibility and power to accomplish whatever creative challenges we face. The workflow is very fast and efficient and I'd never want to go back to mixing on a traditional console, especially when it comes to implementing fixes."

Taking home the award for Outstanding Multi-Camera Picture Editing for a Comedy Series for The Big Bang Theory, editor Peter Chakos, relied on Media Composer. “It’s always an honor to have your work recognized and to be nominated for an Emmy,” said Chakos. “With the help of Avid Media Composer, editing The Big Bang Theory is fast, accurate and flawless. The Avid platform is flexible and intuitive, and it continues to help me complete projects with ease and ahead of schedule.”

“Avid Everywhere enables the television industry’s most talented creative professionals to connect with their audiences by enabling them to focus on their creativity,” said Kyle Kim-Hays, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Avid. “We’re honored that they choose to use Avid’s industry-standard solutions to create some of the most watched and loved shows on television, and we congratulate them on their achievements.”
