Troy Takaki is a seasoned figure in the film and television industry known for his versatile skills as a picture editor and his commitment to mentoring and education.

He began his career in Los Angeles in 1990 after graduating with a degree in cinema from San Francisco State University. Initially focusing on television, Takaki worked on popular series such as Desperate Housewives, Ally McBeal, and Tales from the Crypt.

His editing prowess extended to a range of successful films including Sweet Home Alabama, The Bounty Hunter, Fool’s Gold, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and Hitch. This experience spans both feature films and television, including both scripted and documentary genres.

In recent years, Takaki has continued to make significant contributions to the industry. He has edited hit shows like You and Dead Boy Detectives, as well as the blockbuster film Cheaper by the Dozen. His many achievements include winning an ACE Eddie for his work on the docuseries Escaping Twin Flames.

Beyond editing, Takaki is dedicated to fostering the next generation of editors. Since 2003, he has been actively involved in the ACE Internship Program, and in 2015, he founded the ACE Diversity Mentorship Program. This initiative aims to mentor young editors from underrepresented groups in the hopes of creating a more diverse editing community in the industry. In recognition of his mentorship work, Takaki was presented with the 2023 Sundance/Adobe Mentorship For Fiction award.

In addition to his industry contributions, Takaki shares his knowledge and experience as an adjunct professor at Columbia College Chicago, where he teaches “Career Planning in Post-Production.”

Currently, Takaki is editing the final season of the popular series You for Netflix while continuing to shape the landscape of television editing through mentorship and education.
