Product Highlights

  • Access a global map database

WorldMapper is based on Microsoft’s powerful Bing™ search engine, NASA’s Blue Marble mapping services, and Open Street Maps. WorldMapper also includes a library of all national and interstate borders, so political information can be integrated quickly and easily.
  • Create and collaborate with ease

Create map sequences directly from Maestro | News or in MediaCentral and save them to MediaCentral | Production for anyone with access. Once saved, journalists can edit the maps in a MediaCentral timeline, and editors can use them in Media Composer or as a video in a Maestro graphics template.
  • Get flexible configuration

WorldMapper can be used as a standalone application as well as a client-server, and up to five clients can be connected simultaneously. If the workflow contains more than one WorldMapper, content can be centralized by sharing a common database.

Features

    • Customize any map

By using a simple and intuitive editor, you can modify the appearance of the map according to your needs—from one-color flat maps to multi-colored 3D globe maps. All the different map layouts can be saved for later use.

    • Highlight geographical locations

WorldMapper comes with a library of all national and interstate borders, enabling you to integrate political information quickly and easily. Countries and regions can be colored for greater emphasis. The map’s color and outlines may be adapted to the layout concept. You can even edit both the look and content of the depicted countries' borders, such as when visualizing shifts in ownership claims. The edited border is saved as a copy so that the original can still be accessed.

    • Add visual graphics enhancements

Visually show flight and trip routes clearly using a variety of object animations. The magnifying glass brings high-resolution street-level maps into focus, while the “Bird's Eye View” feature provides impressive 45-degree site visuals without leaving the overview position of the map. The Mini Map locator maintains the overview even when the visualization dives deep into the map. Previously used location data can be stored in a bookmark library and found easily for later use.

    • Output maps in a wide range of formats

WorldMapper features a powerful video encoding engine, enabling you to choose the desired video format, codec, clip size, bitrate, aspect ratio, and more. You can even customize the codec configuration for more flexibility

    • Get easy newsroom integration

Journalists are required to do more than just write stories—they also need to use graphics and maps to enrich the storytelling. WorldMapper’s web plugin enables journalists, editors, and other contributors to easily create and edit maps to accompany a story by themselves.

    • Add interactivity

WorldMapper offers options to create flights for interactive presentations on a touch screen, and navigate through a collection of online high-resolution maps. In addition, news anchors can use WorldMapper to present and interact with created sequences. With multi-touch support, every map can be accessed quickly and intuitively on the screen using gestures. Presenters can zoom in and out with two fingers, stop an animation at any place, assign a story to a geographical location, and visit the relevant scenes. Function controls can be positioned anywhere on the screen to highlight countries, add objects, or return to previous map positions.
