With Pro Tools Sketch, Avid addresses the growing needs of modern creators, no matter their preferred music creation style. Pro Tools Sketch

Pro Tools Sketch is a significant expansion of the Pro Tools music creation workflow, adding a non-linear creation environment to the proven Pro Tools toolset used on the majority of top music releases, movies and TV shows. Users can now start with clip-based sketches in which loops, MIDI and recordings can be freely organized and played, and then exported to be shared with friends. Sketches can also be moved to the Pro Tools timeline for further production using its world-class editing and mixing tools. And since sketches can be moved between computer and iPad at will, users can capture and play with ideas anywhere inspiration strikes.

Pro Tools Sketch features 16 tracks and virtually unlimited scenes and includes over 1 GB of loops and a variety of onboard effects to create for any kind of music genre. Users can quickly audition audio and MIDI loops in the browser and drag them into the launcher where they can be played, moved and tweaked. Audio and MIDI can be recorded and edited alongside loops and then quickly organized into linear song arrangements. Whether users are experienced or new to Pro Tools, Sketch gives them new ways to experiment and make something they truly love.

To help audio engineers more easily and consistently deliver clean and clear production audio, Avid will preview new development efforts to utilize Celemony ARA 2 technology to integrate iZotope’s RX Spectral Editor directly into Pro Tools. This will enable users to have a more fluid workflow to repair and clean-up audio, without the need to hop in-and-out of applications. The professional standard for dialogue editing and other critical processes, RX Spectral Editor visually displays unwanted audio imperfections and interference for easy restoration and clean-up.

Incorporating a sophisticated artificial intelligence (AI) model, the latest release auto-completes chord symbols above the stave as users click through bars and notes of their score. By analyzing the surrounding music for harmonic context, Sibelius can add suggested chord symbols to music of all textures—from full polyphonic sections to simple one-line melodies—speeding up chord notation workflows.

“Until now, entering chord symbols and chord diagrams into Sibelius—even assisted by a plugin—has been a manual process,” explains Sam Butler, Director of Product Management, Avid. “Our new AI-driven feature makes it quick and easy to add chord symbols to existing music, while giving the user complete flexibility to manage the process. It’s like having an interactive session with a harmony professor at your fingertips.”

Users can ask Sibelius to input chord symbols either at the start of each bar or after each note. If the harmony is ambiguous, or if users disagree with a suggested chord symbol, Sibelius can instantaneously present other plausible chord suggestions with a simple click.

Where Sibelius detects multiple chord symbol possibilities, it indicates the number of suggestions and displays a “confidence score” for each. Users can simply scroll through the plausible possibilities before making their choice.

The local AI model driving the chord symbol suggestion has been specially trained from several public datasets, using music by Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, with smaller sets by Tchaikovsky, Rimsky-Korsakov and Max Reger.

Avid VENUE | S6L users can now seamlessly patch any input source from anywhere on the VENUE | S6L platform or connected network – to any input channel, with fully Automatic Delay Compensation, giving engineers unlimited patching flexibility.  

The advanced and flexible routing capabilities in VENUE 7.2 include input channels that can be routed directly from six different pickoff points: 

·      Top of channel allows users to get the signal at the raw source – straight from the analog mic pre. 

·      The True Gain pickoff point ensures consistent gain structure for engineers when sharing the mic pre across multiple systems, regardless of their role in setup. In IO sharing scenarios without ownership of the analog mic pre, the True Gain pickoff provides seamless real-time compensation for any analog gain stage changes.

·      Pre-EQ, Insert Return, Pre-Fader Post-Mute and Post Fader allow users to choose which level of processing is applied for the duplicated input. 

In addition to these internal processing paths, users also have direct access to any physical source on the VENUE | S6L platform, such as stage and local inputs, and sources from any MADI-192 or MILAN-192 option card. With an extensive array of patching and routing capabilities, users enjoy enhanced creative freedom and can effortlessly position audio exactly where they need it to be, eliminating the need for time-consuming legacy workarounds.

Now we can do this more elegantly without the wasted plug-in slot.”

Avid's innovations in live sound include the recent addition of Soothe Live for S6L, free for a year with a support plan. Addressing common problems in mixing live sound like overly bright instruments, proximity effect in vocals, muddiness and instrument bleed, Soothe Live works in real time and was developed specifically for S6L users to work quickly and efficiently to get the highest quality mixes regardless of venue size, layout, or acoustics.

Pro Tools 2023.6 introduces track markers that enable music and audio post users to install points on a track, performance notes, dialogue and lyric references and edit comments. Customers can use markers to give detailed, color-coded comments within a track to speed navigation and improve arrangement, mixing, and collaboration workflows. Track markers also offer improved interoperability and compatibility with Media Composer when exporting Pro Tools sessions. 

Pro Tools now also features new track widths up to 9.1.6 to support Dolby Atmos and other immersive formats including MPEG-H. These new track widths expand the formats that can be mixed and monitored, but they also enable more advanced 3D plugin processing. Users can now also import and export higher quality Dolby Atmos mixes with 96 kHz ADM file support. New track widths offer increased resolution for better spatial accuracy for modern gaming engines and VR workflows with support for up to 7th order Ambisonics. 

This release continues to improve upon Pro Tools user experience with several new updates. Selecting and configuring the audio hardware is the most fundamental step in setting up a system and Pro Tools now streamlines the process with a guided setup if no device is configured, helping users get up and running faster. The Event Operations window has also been redesigned to enable the adjustment of various MIDI properties like timing, velocity, and transposition. The award-winning Pro Tools | Carbon audio interface also sees an update in this Pro Tools release with the addition of surround support. Now supporting configurations from 5.1 to 7.1.2, the HDX DSP-accelerated system becomes even more capable of handling the most demanding audio workflows.

Sibelius for mobile expands the leading music notation program into a professional, cross-platform music notation solution. Almost anything concerning the heart and soul of composition and arrangement will now be available to iPad users. They can create, edit, share, and play Sibelius files everywhere via tablet, opening up new opportunities and locales in which to be creative. While Sibelius for mobile is fully featured, there are some notation and layout features only available in the desktop version, making it an integral part of a complete workflow. Sibelius for mobile comes at no additional cost with all Sibelius desktop subscriptions, enabling users to work where and how they want.

Sibelius for mobile is available for download now at no cost from the Apple App Store, and like desktop Sibelius, offers three tiers of functionality that enable users to scale the app for their music composing and notation needs. The Hybrid Engine maximizes Pro Tools performance by intelligently splitting processing between native and HDX DSP mix engines.  HDX Systems with the Hybrid Engine uses native and DSP processing more harmoniously. With 2,048 voices in Pro Tools | Ultimate and immediate access to HDX’s onboard DSP, users can run bigger sessions more smoothly—even with one-card systems. Users also can toggle between Native and DSP modes on a track-by-track basis to nullify the distracting effects of latency with the click of a button.

Pro Tools | First, Pro Tools, and Pro Tools | Ultimate as well as Pro Tools | Carbon systems can run on the latest Macs that use Apple’s new M1 silicon processors.

Record and mix bigger sessions with more I/O, tracks, and voices

Pro Tools and Pro Tools | Ultimate now support a maximum 64 channels of I/O—up from 32. Pro Tools now supports a maximum 256 mono or stereo audio tracks at all sample rates—up from 128 at 48 kHz. And Pro Tools | Ultimate now supports a maximum 2,048 voices and audio tracks at all sample rates—5x more than previous versions. Users will be able to track bigger sessions and work with  more outboard gear using any Core Audio or ASIO interface.

Customize the Dark and Classic UI themes

Users can now change the brightness and saturation of almost every aspect of the user interface. Users can save favorite settings as presets and switch between them at any time as well as toggle between the Dark and Classic UI themes dynamically, without having to restart Pro Tools.

The new PT210D Pro Tools Dolby Atmos Production course will enable Pro Tools mixers to recognize the components of a Dolby Atmos content creation studio, and outline workflows for creating immersive audio in Pro Tools.
