PhraseFind AI: Enhanced transcription and rapid search results

Now equipped with modern transcription results, rather than using phonetic searching, editors can use PhraseFind AI to catalog volumes of dialog-driven media, substantially improving search efficiency. Editors can effortlessly locate clips and begin editing directly within the search results of the displayed sentence and search word. PhraseFind AI also offers full text results in search and will initially support 21 languages for automatic language detection, eliminating limitations when working with foreign languages.

Content Review Capabilities for Editors

Media Composer’s new Multiplex IO feature enhances the “over the shoulder” experience by giving users the ability to have up to 10 active I/O plug-ins simultaneously. Every nominee in the Film Editing category, including winner Joe Walker for “Dune,” cut their films using Avid Media Composer^®, the industry’s most-used video editing software. 

ACE editors Myron Kerstein and Andrew Weisblum were nominated for their work on the popular autobiographical musical by playwright Jonathan Larson, “tick, tick... BOOM!”  

“We’re honored to be nominated by the Academy for Best Editing,” said the two editors. “This film not only celebrates the life of Jonathan Larson but pulls back the curtain about the process of making art. We tried to do this seamlessly by interweaving footage from Jonathan’s past, present, archival footage and musical sequences. It’s a complex non-linear story inspired by Fosse, Sondheim, Lin and Larson. None of this would be possible without the tools provided by Avid, our go-to editing system for over 20 years.”

Sound nominees, including Richard Flynn, Robert Mackenzie and Tara Webb for “The Power of the Dog”; andDenise Yarde, Simon Chase, James Mather and Niv Adiri for “Belfast,” used Pro Tools, Avid’s industry-standard digital audio software, to bring each film’s sound to life.

Mackenzie, supervising sound editor on “The Power of the Dog,” pre-mixed audio on an Avid S4 and used an Avid S6 to import softkeys and layouts. He said, “I’m so proud of everybody’s work on “The Power of the Dog.” We used Avid software and hardware at every stage of the process and the soundtrack really benefitted from this workflow. We’re all so humbled by our Academy Award nomination this year. It’s especially exciting as it marks the first time an Australian female re-recording mixer has been nominated – congratulations Tara Webb!”

This year’s nominees deserve an extra round of applause for the hard work and creativity that they delivered throughout a year that presented incredibly difficult challenges. The 73^rd Emmys made history with the first-ever all women of color editing team taking home a win for the popular sketch comedy series, A Black Lady Sketch Show, in the category of Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming.

“I'm so proud and humbled to be part of this historic win, which I share with the talented Daysha Broadway and Stephanie Filo,” said Jessica Hernández, ACE Editor. “Avid’s technologies were an essential part of bringing A Black Lady Sketch Show to life.”

ACE editor Nona Khodai was nominated for her work on Marvel’s WandaVision, a series with an incredible amount of different styles seen throughout the show, all of which were cut on Media Composer while she and her team worked remotely.

This year, the COVID-19 lockdown significantly influenced audiences’ viewing habits, whether it was watching a comedy about a small-time U.S. football coach turned professional soccer coach in England or a historical drama about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. At-home programming helped people cope with the events taking a place across the globe and it wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible craftspeople behind the scenes.

Based in Sacramento, KVIE is a locally producing PBS station that curates educational programming and online content for almost 1.4 million households in California. It also produces content that’s distributed nationwide, including series like America’s Heartland, and produces programs and series for regional and local distribution such as Inside California Education, KVIE Arts Showcase, and ViewFinder. With a considerable amount of content being created and broadcast every day, KVIE needed an end-to-end solution that would streamline its production workflows, while also meeting its reliability and cost-efficiency needs.
