Create captivating graphics and scenes

Design anything imaginable
Whether you work in HD or UHD, SDR or HDR, 2D or 3D, or a mix and match of all, Maestro | Designer makes it easy to create eye-catching on-air graphics, animation, and 3D objects—in up to 16K resolution. Maximize efficiency with powerful creative tools that integrate directly with other Avid solutions, as well as content created in third-party design tools, enabling you to design richly complex and dynamic high-end content and scenes without complexity.
Create sophisticated content

Getting that high-end look is easier than ever. Create complex shapes with SuperCube, SuperTetra, and SuperNGon primitives. Create more complex digital video effects and transitions with the NEW Panel Object primitive. Apply real-time rippling and deformation effects with the NEW wave modifier—ideal for animating flags and creating water effects. Build beautiful bar, line, pie, and K-line charts quickly. Dynamically generate and animate texture elements—such as gradients, lines, cross-hatching, and checkers—with procedural textures built into RenderEngine. And add high-quality motion blur to animations without pre-rendering.

Connect with NDI video sources

Maestro | Designer and Maestro | Engine support the NewTek NDI® (Network Device Interface) standard, opening your workflow to over a million video cameras, software applications, servers, switchers, graphics systems, and other device possibilities that support the IP protocol. Connect to any networked video source that supports NDI. Use NDI sources as video insertions in your Maestro graphics. Stream desktop content and applications as video sources to Maestro | Engine. You can even use the NDI output from multiple Maestro | Engines as additional content preview/monitoring sources, giving you more workflow flexibility.

Work with files from your favorite creative tools

Bring in graphics, documents, and presentations with support for BMP, DDS, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, TGA, PNG, PDF, SVG, PPT, TTF, and OTF file formats. Preserve Photoshop layers through PSD import and Adobe motion graphics assets through the Maestro | Designer After Effects plug-in. And work directly with files created in 3ds Max, Maya, and Cinema 4D, as well as with FBX, OBJ, DAE, DXF, 3DS, LWS, X3D, and VRML 3D models.

Make graphics pop with high-end effects

Whether you’re looking to bring realism to a virtual world or want to grab a viewer’s attention, a whole suite of effects tools awaits. Add real-time motion blur to objects in action. Add realistic texture to 3D objects with the material library. And create and animate effects in real time with shaders—from simple sepia toning, edge detection, and luminance filtering, to complex morphing and warping.

Create and present real-time HDR content

Captivate audiences and elevate the look of your broadcasts with richer, more realistic imagery. Maestro | Designer and RenderEngine support real-time HDR graphics workflows on the Maestro | Engine platform, enabling you to design and preview content with greater shadow and highlight detail and more faithful color accuracy. Plus, you can combine HDR and SDR content in the same environment—across UHD or HD workflows—and all content will display correctly.

Work with intelligent templates

Repurposing content is key to maximizing efficiency. Maestro | Designer makes it easy using graphics templates. Each can have “exported” elements that can be updated quickly and dynamically during production—from text captions and live video feeds, to textures, chart bars, audio sources, and other data. You can also crunch large volumes of data easily by using data connections and statistical functions on different values—ideal for updating financial and election graphics.

Empower artists with unlimited creativity

Unleash your creativity with unlimited 2D and 3D layers. View your work with the adaptive preview, which supports up to 16K video wall resolutions—without dedicated rendering hardware. Get robust 2D/3D text handling, including effect animations, counters, and emoticons. And thanks to the intuitive object tree workflow, managing templates and collaborating with others is easy.

Design in any resolution

Maestro | Designer offers resolution independent authoring, so you can create graphics in any format and aspect ratio. View safe areas for 4:3 and 16:9, with layout options for cropping, scaling, and alignment. Access multiple views for visualizing complex 3D environments. You can even view extreme aspect ratios when designing for video walls—without the need for hardware. Plus, text will always look sharp—no matter the resolution—thanks to unique font-rendering features.

Bring content to life with animation

Design cool effects, motion graphics, or alter the look of an object over time. With easy-to-use animation tools, you can set keyframes along the timeline with just a click. The animation window features both “dope sheet” and “curves” timeline views, so you can edit your work in a familiar environment. Create animated characters quickly by importing third-party FBX 3D models—complete with complex animations, multiple animation groups, and skeletal meshes. Even create events that cascade through the scene—triggered by animation playback—without scripting. Or add multiple tickers that run simultaneously.

Engage audiences with interactive graphics

Empower your talent to drive the story. Using a touch device, you can tap, drag, hold, manipulate, pinch, zoom, and interact with any scene element—with realistic physics, including object inertia and collisions. Without any scripting or programming. And with the telestration module, you can draw on screen to enhance sports events and analysis. Or interact with content as you freely move around the studio with the iPad app and Maestro | Interactive.

Control, integrate, simplify, and accelerate your workflow

Integrate designers into your MediaCentral workflow

MediaCentral can be integrated as a panel within the Maestro | Designer interface, giving graphic designers easy access to all of the powerful media search, browse, and preview capabilities MediaCentral offers—right inside of Maestro | Designer. Drag and drop media directly to the object tree or RenderEngine preview window. Archive graphics and scenes directly to MediaCentral | Asset Management. And journalists using MediaCentral can easily insert assets into Maestro templates from the field.

Gain better visual insight into your scenes—NEW

With the new Schematic View, you can view and manage all data connections in a scene, making it easier to create, control, and comprehend the logic and data flow across all data-driven graphics. Create multiple schematic views of different scene elements to provide a convenient overview, enabling you to interact directly with a scene, trigger animation, edit properties and functions, and preview scene behavior, all from one interface. You can even add and edit triggers, making it easy to do quick changes.

Enable back-to-back playback

With the powerful video playback engine, you can play a variety of video content back to back—including Avid DNxHR, DNxHD, XDCAM, MOV with alpha channel, and AVC media. Get content on air faster without the fuss and take advantage of flexible playback capabilities, including start time scheduling, audio mapping, reversing clips, changing speed, and more.

Control playback with Master Animation tools
Take command of complex scenes with tools that enable you to control multiple animation groups from a single timeline. Fully cover all animation playback production requirements by simply creating multiple “Master Animations,” which minimize the prep work needed in the control surfaces. In addition, you can also precisely set when an external data export will be sent to a scene using Timeline Export.
Simplify communication

Provide direction and other important information through notes that designers can attach to any object or to the scene for other designers working on the same project. It’s also a great way to provide embedded feedback during the review and approval process.

Get designers up and running faster—NEW

With the ability to import and export user settings, you can now back up user presets and configurations and share settings across multiple systems in your production environment to help get graphics designers up and running quickly. It’s ideal when upgrading systems in production environments with multiple users, eliminating the time spent reconfiguring user settings.
