Paderborn Theater Modernizes Audio Workflow with Avid VENUE | S6L
Widely-renowned Westphalian Theater invests in new mixing console systems for the main hall (Großes Haus) and studio (Studio).
This year, The Paderborn Theatre has updated its audio setup, and as part of this modernization, replaced the mixing consoles in two of its three venues to VENUE | S6L live sound systems from Avid. With a VENUE | S6L-32D in the main hall (Großes Haus) and a VENUE | S6L-16C in the studio (Studio), the theater optimally covers the audio requirements of versatile performance operations.
By switching to the VENUE | S6L live mixing console, the widely-renowned Westphalian Theater, with one musical production per season, enhanced its technical repertoire with innovative functions such as snapshots, MIDI-controlled cues, and flexible routing options.
A modern setup for versatile requirements
In the main hall, the VENUE | S6L-32D control surface together with a powerful VENUE | E6L-144 Engine and Stage 48 and Stage 64 stage racks replaces the previously used VENUE Profile system from Avid. The theater's studio was equipped with a VENUE | S6L-16C control surface with a VENUE | E6L-112 Engine. It replaces the previous VENUE | SC48 system and is used as a FOH console. Both setups offer extensive live mixing possibilities and optimally support the theater’s workflow. The decision in favor of the VENUE | S6L was particularly influenced by the seamless integration of existing show files and the sound department's familiarity with the system’s workflow. In this regard, Till Petry, head of the sound and video technology department at Paderborn Theater, explains, "It was important for us to have the shortest possible familiarization period so that we could get straight into the flow. Furthermore, it was important for us to transfer the old shows as quickly and easily as possible and to be able to access well-established functions such as snapshots and MIDI connectivity."
Seamless integration, easy system changeover
The planning and implementation of the modernization of the audio setup took place in May and June of 2024. The specialist Berlin-based planning and integration service provider IT AUDIO was responsible for the project and ensured the seamless integration of the new VENUE | S6L systems in both the main hall and studio. From initial consultation and planning support to on-site support during setup and user training, the S.E.A. Live team provided end-to-end support in all project stages, contributing to an easy transition to the new VENUE | S6L systems.
Flexible, fast workflows for modern stage productions
The VENUE | S6L solutions provide Paderborn Theater with numerous advantages that significantly improve the workflow. Particularly noteworthy is the seamless integration of existing show files, which enabled a quick and straightforward familiarization with the new system. In addition, the flexible use of the stage racks in both venues offer a high degree of versatility, which makes operations much easier. Features such as the intuitive snapshot system, the practical overview layer, and the option for designing individual layouts make operating the S6L not only efficient, but also pleasant and flexible in daily use. "The new routing options have made working even easier, clearer, and faster. The overview layer makes set-ups very convenient and supports enormously in maintaining overview. In addition, the individually programmable layout option is particularly helpful in the studio," adds Sven Belzer, sound and video technician at Paderborn Theater.

With the new Avid VENUE | S6L solution, Paderborn Theater has elevated its technical infrastructure to a future-proof level. The investment not only ensures smooth performance operation but also strengthens the theater’s creative flexibility for its productions.
