RÚV and Avid Develop Seamless Live Production Workflow

Covering live news and sporting events can be the ultimate production challenge. The action moves fast, and the audience moves right along with it, expecting instant analysis, replays, and historical context. The broadcasters who keep pace with dynamic storytelling tools and productions enjoy enormous viewer loyalty and brand recognition.

With that in mind, Iceland’s RÚV set out to seriously upgrade how they cover live sports events and other news and sports programming. The challenge: to dramatically improve production value in a more simplified, streamlined workflow.

It’s really important for us to be clever in choosing the systems and equipment we use because we need to be fast and very pragmatic in our approach.

Gunnar Örn Guðmundsson, Head of Technology

That’s when the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service called Avid. Partners for nearly 20 years, RÚV came to Avid looking for solutions. What they got was Maestro | Live, the all-in-one solution for live news and sports coverage.

With Maestro | Live, RÚV can now produce and control action-based, data-driven UHD graphics and video playout from a single interface. For RÚV, it’s been a game-changer.

...when we got Maestro… we can do it when the game is live… if the experts say, 'hey, I want to talk about this,' … then the technician just straight-away goes in and gets the graphics done.

Vilhjálmur Siggeirsson, Sports Producer

The new workflow has empowered RÚV’s production team to be more efficient, allowing for cross-training across different workgroups.
