AVID MEDIA COMPOSER 2024 LAUNCHES NEW FEATURES
Transcription enhancements powered by AI, timeline waveform views, spot to timecode, automatic subcap to sequence
What's New in Avid Media Composer: Transcription and More
The latest release of Avid Media Composer brings a host of new features designed to improve performance including greater efficiency, creativity, and collaboration. With a focus on AI-driven transcription powered by Avid Ada, this update strives to streamline workflows for both scripted and unscripted projects.
Let’s dive into the key new features, with a spotlight on transcription tools and other exciting developments.
What’s New:
Game-Changing Transcription Enhancements
The new version makes it easier than ever to transcribe and subtitle content, saving you time while improving accuracy. Here’s a breakdown of the top transcription features:
- Source/Record Side Transcriptions in the Transcript Tool
Media Composer now supports transcription on both the Source and Record sides of the sequence, a significant upgrade to the Transcript Tool. With a single click, you can generate subtitles, view transcripts in sync with your media, and even edit directly from the transcript text. Ideal for managing dialogue-heavy projects, you can:
- Visualize transcript data as you edit.
- Set in-and-out points by highlighting text.
- Use keyboard shortcuts to navigate and edit right from the Transcript Tool.
For clips that haven't been transcribed, Media Composer will display their timecode, clip name, and status. Choose to transcribe individual clips or batch process all remaining ones, making workflow management smoother than ever.
- Transcription Settings & Customization
Need more control over your transcriptions? The new update allows users to transcribe clips with custom settings, selecting specific audio tracks and applying language hints as needed. You can also now set transcription preferences at the project creation stage, ensuring that all relevant settings are applied before work begins. This ensures greater flexibility, especially in collaborative environments where multiple users may need consistent transcription parameters.
- Share and Archive Transcriptions
Gone are the days of redundant processing. Media Composer now allows you to share transcription data between workstations. Whether you’re managing multi-project workflows or want to save transcription settings for future use, you can now easily export and share transcriptions across your team. This feature is accessible via the Manage Transcript window, allowing for easy sharing and archiving at the sequence, project, or clip level.
- Transcription Tool Fast Menu
The Transcript Tool now includes a Fast Menu for quick access to common functions, such as creating scripts from clips, exporting transcripts, and generating SubCap files. This menu streamlines the transcription workflow, letting you focus on editing rather than navigating through settings.
Enhanced Audio Visualization in the Timeline
The latest update also brings improved audio waveform views to help editors make more informed decisions when handling audio. New waveform visualization options include:
- Source Levels: Waveforms reflect the original recording levels of the source audio.
- Output Levels: Waveforms reflect changes in audio amplitude, such as Clip Gain and Volume. This helps provide an estimated visual mixing level via waveform across clips.
- Full Height: A visual normalization of audio levels to better see where audible moments occur. Extending audio peaks can assist with visualizing sounds for easier dialogue editing and syncing.
This improved clarity makes dialogue editing and syncing smoother, giving editors a more intuitive way to handle complex audio projects.
Spot to Timecode: Faster Clip Insertion
Another standout feature in this release is the Spot to Timecode function, which allows you to add clips from a bin directly to a sequence at their source timecode. This saves valuable time when inserting clips into a sync map or placing them accurately without additional steps. If there aren’t enough tracks, Media Composer will automatically add them, ensuring a seamless experience.
Improved Titler+ Experience
Media Composer 2024.10 features a Titler+ toolset with improved performance and a Dashboard and Effect Editor that have been enhanced based on customer feedback. The updated toolbar gives users greater control over how they interact with the tool, streamlining the animation and text-editing process. Additionally, the new coordinate system and anchor points allow for more precise placement and manipulation of text and shapes within your project.

Automatic SubCap Creation
With automatic SubCap creation, Media Composer now makes it easier than ever to add subtitles to your sequence. Simply right-click in the Timeline and choose Transcript > Create SubCap to instantly generate subtitles based on your transcription. This feature can leverage already transcribed clips to save processing power, ensuring you get the job done faster without compromising accuracy.
Maximize your day-to-day workflows. Minimize mundane tasks, save time, and build a more efficient process with the essential new Avid Media Composer features.
