Avid Media Composer editors can now access the entire Marvel archive via the Marvel Cinematic Universe-Editorial Library management system.

A Cloud-Based Self-Service Library for Asset Reuse

Avid worked closely with the Walt Disney Studios to transform the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) editorial archive into a real-time library accessible to current Marvel productions and marketing teams. The innovative, cloud-based solution demonstrates principles of the MovieLabs 2030 Vision and delivers secure deep-search capabilities, ultimately streamlining production and marketing workflows.

Beginning with Iron Man in 2008, all MCU films and television series have been edited on the Avid Media Composer® digital editing system. The MCU-EL (Marvel Cinematic Universe – Editorial Library) system allows every sequence, source clip, and subclip in the Marvel archive to be accessed through a web browser, ingested into a central library, searched remotely, and delivered back to storage, where it is available for immediate re-use by Marvel production teams. Utilizing custom extensions to Avid Media Composer and other Avid products, the library can be utilized by all approved Media Composer | Enterprise users.

This case study, originally published by MovieLabs as part of its 2030 Showcase program, outlines the objectives, architecture, and benefits of the MCU-EL system, and highlights its alignment with key principles of the MovieLabs 2030 Vision.
