BURLINGTON, Mass., August 27, 2026 – Avid® today announced that it will unveil the latest in the evolution of Media Composer® at IBC2026 (September 11–14 in Amsterdam, Booth 7.B59). With deeper integration into Avid Content Core™ and expanded agentic workflow intelligence, Media Composer will continue to be the most advanced, AI-ready, cloud-connected editing platform on the market. At the show, Avid will also launch Media Composer 2026.8, a major update that gives editors and post production teams greater flexibility and openness to collaborate, grow, and scale across film, television, broadcast, education, and enterprise media production.
Alongside the advances in Media Composer 2026.8, Avid will showcase its next agentic capability – Ready to Edit – designed to accelerate content preparation for editors without compromising the creative process. Visitors to the Avid booth will also see how a closer connection between Media Composer and Avid Content Core is bringing media intelligence and workflow context directly into the editing experience, alongside a new agentic orchestration layer and embedded AI capabilities through the new Google Gemini panel. Together, these developments show how Avid is embedding AI into intelligent, connected editorial workflows rather than adding it as a series of standalone features.
“Media Composer has always been built around the way professional editors actually work, and that principle is shaping how we bring AI into the editing experience,” said Kenna Hilburn, Chief Product Officer at Avid. “Through Avid Content Core, we’re bringing AI into the content, context, and trusted workflows production teams already rely on, enabling more of the preparation and routine work to be automated while leaving editorial oversight and creative control firmly in editors’ hands. At IBC, we’re demonstrating how that approach can make AI genuinely useful within the creative process, alongside meaningful improvements in Media Composer 2026.8 that give teams greater flexibility in how they work and collaborate.”
Available September 1, Media Composer 2026.8 expands collaboration and storage flexibility through Media Composer Shared Projects, reflecting how post teams increasingly work across multiple locations, storage environments, and stages of production. New Shared Projects options, clearer product tiers, and practical editorial enhancements reduce workflow friction, allowing editors to focus on creative decisions while choosing the collaboration model that best fits their needs.
Expanding the proven standard for collaborative editing
Media Composer 2026.8 broadens Shared Projects access, helping teams work together more easily using Avid NEXIS® while also giving Enterprise customers the flexibility to use shared storage environments beyond NEXIS for the first time. Avid NEXIS, the most integrated collaboration experience at scale, is now available for Shared Projects from the Media Composer Standard tier upward. In contrast, the Enterprise tier enables fully supported, secure collaboration with qualified third-party storage solutions.
With the latest development in making Avid an even more open ecosystem, Shared Projects enables post teams to keep using the workflows they know while connecting more of the storage and infrastructure already in place across production. With wider access, more editors can benefit from Avid NEXIS® as the industry’s established shared storage foundation for Media Composer collaboration. At the same time, Enterprise customers can securely work across more distributed workflows and complex storage environments.
The new release also offers users a more straightforward way to grow within the Media Composer family. An expanded Media Composer First experience provides a no-cost entry point for aspiring editors, students, and emerging talent, while Standard, Ultimate, and Enterprise align capabilities to progressively more advanced professional, AI-assisted, and secure collaborative workflows. As their needs evolve, users can more easily understand what is included, what requires a new license, and how to move into the capabilities they need without leaving the Media Composer ecosystem.
Accelerating editorial work with enhanced capabilities
Media Composer 2026.8 also adds practical enhancements that help editors move faster through demanding post production workflows while keeping more of the process inside Media Composer. New capabilities include:
- PhraseFindAI Multicam Auto Cut – Drives multicam selection based on speaker and places cuts on speech boundaries, speeding editorial while preserving creative control and editability.
- Transcript Tools – Enhance workflows to include revert transcript edits, split segments, and continuous playback in viewer, improving review, story refinement, and transcript control.
- OpenTimelineIO 2.0 Adapter Update – Improves test coverage and round-trip fidelity with third-party tools, boosting interoperability and reducing friction when exchanging timelines across applications.
- What’s New Window – Highlights new capabilities and links users directly to documentation and learning resources, helping teams discover and adopt new features faster.
Other enhancements include Choose Bin Column Search, Swap Audio Track from Subclip, and Titler+ Keyframe Rectification to improve search precision, audio flexibility, and timeline reliability – along with expanded APIs for automation and integration.
Showing the evolution of Media Composer at IBC2026
In showcasing the Ready to Edit panel, Avid will demonstrate how it is extending Media Composer beyond simply bolting on individual AI features to enable more intelligent, connected production workflows, alongside deeper integration between Media Composer and Avid Content Core. Booth visitors will see how a Content Core panel inside Media Composer allows editors to access, search, and use assets from across the wider media estate without leaving their established editing environment, with support for publishing Avid Content Core assets directly from Media Composer.
Avid’s vision for browser-based Media Composer workflows will also be previewed at IBC2026, beginning with web-based editing capabilities within Avid Content Core. Designed to extend professional editorial workflows rather than replace desktop Media Composer, this approach will give teams greater flexibility to review, prepare, and work with content in a browser before moving into deeper craft editing.
