WHAT’S INSIDE

An 8-band fuzz engine that runs your signal through intentional mathematical error, with results that can go from surprisingly musical to completely unhinged depending on how you push it.

The Multiband Architecture

At the heart of Bad Math is an 8-band crossover network. Rather than processing your signal as a single entity, Bad Math splits it into eight independent frequency bands, runs each through its own fuzz circuit, then recombines them and passes the result through a final overdrive stage.

This architecture gives producers precise tonal control beyond a typical distortion plugin. The low end saturates differently from the high mids. The highs can be pushed to the edge while the fundamental of a bass note stays intact. Each band has 32dB of gain available, with an additional 100dB of fuzz on top, more than enough to push any signal into the extremes.

The Tone slider functions like a tone pot applied to each individual band, giving you a fast and intuitive way to shape brightness and weight across the entire frequency range without diving into individual band settings.

Two Fuzz Modes Per Band

Each of the eight bands offers two distinct fuzz modes. Angry is a primitive digital fuzz algorithm, raw and direct. Dead is a more extreme experimental signal mangling distortion, pushing the digital signal into genuinely unpredictable territory.

Switching between these two modes is a significant tonal shift. Angry is aggressive but controlled. Dead is chaotic.

Drive and Final Clip Stage

The Drive control sits before the final clipping stage, allowing you to shape how hard the signal hits the output clipper. Back it off for warmth and color; push it for saturation and commitment. It is a simple control with a wide range of outcomes depending on how it interacts with your band settings.

SNAPSHOT BLEND

Bad Math replaces the standard A/B compare found in most plugins with a Snapshot Blend system. Capture two states of the plugin and use a single control to morph smoothly between them. This makes it easy to find the precise balance between a subtle tone-shaping setting and something more aggressive, without rebuilding your settings manually.

Snapshot Blend is useful for sound design, mixing, and any situation where you want to explore the space between two tonal extremes.

OVERSAMPLING AND QUALITY SETTINGS

Bad Math includes five oversampling modes. One minimum-phase mode for zero-latency processing, three classic linear-phase modes with different filter steepness settings, and a special FFT mode that delivers extreme fidelity at the cost of increased latency.

Real-time processing supports up to 16x oversampling. For the linear phase and FFT modes, offline rendering extends that up to 64x. The effective sample rate is always displayed in the plugin menu.
