ABOUT SOUNDFLOW

Trusted by the world’s leading engineers, editors, and producers, SoundFlow is the first platform to bring true workflow automation to professional audio. Designed to remove friction from the technical process, it transforms complexity into focus, allowing professionals to work at the speed of their ideas by eliminating repetitive tasks.

At the core of this platform is SFX, the SoundFlow Extension Framework, the intelligent engine that connects SoundFlow directly to Pro Tools and other professional applications. Through SFX, automation becomes context-aware, responsive, and seamlessly integrated across macOS and Windows.

In this blog, we’ll explore how Pro Tools, now powered by SoundFlow, redefines what it means to stay in the creative flow.

Grab some coffee and settle in. This is the first of its kind integration with Pro Tools, so it needs ample explanation.

WHAT’S NEW—SOUNDFLOW IN PRO TOOLS

When you open Pro Tools, you’ll notice that SoundFlow now lives in the right-hand sidebar. Two integrated panels — Learn and SoundFlow — bring automation and education directly into your session, giving you immediate access to Tutorials, Macros, Decks, and Flows. There is a good chance some of this terminology is new to you. If so, visit soundflow.org for a quick overview, or you can access the SoundFlow Glossary here.

The new Learn and SoundFlow panels are located in the right-side panel of the Edit window, where the Clips List resides, but can also be broken out into a standalone window via the following Pro Tools “Window” menu items.

  • Window ➔ Learn
  • Window ➔ SoundFlow

INTRODUCING THE SOUNDFLOW PANEL

SESSION ASSISTANT

(Requires SoundFlow subscription)

The Session Assistant is exactly what it sounds like—a built-in assistant inside Pro Tools, powered by SoundFlow’s SFX framework with a ChatGPT-style interface. Session Assistant allows you to create, rename, and modify tracks, or perform session tasks simply by typing or speaking your request.

Because it understands context, the Session Assistant follows your workflow, remembers details from the ongoing conversation, and adapts its responses to keep your workflow moving smoothly.

Voice input is supported through your default system microphone, making it easier than ever to stay hands-on with your mix while issuing quick commands.

SELECT THE BEST MIC

(Requires SoundFlow subscription)

The Select the Best Mic flow utilizes AI to assist with dialog editing by identifying the optimal audio for each track in multi-mic recordings. It analyzes your selection to detect where each track's dialog sounds best, while muting any waveforms that don’t match the best source, making quick work of isolating the best mic for each moment. This intelligent process saves valuable editing time, improves dialogue workflows, and will continue to evolve with future updates that add more control and fine-tuning options.

BOUNCE FACTORY 2—BUILT BY A LEGEND, REFINED FOR EVERYONE

(Requires purchase)

Created by world-renowned mix engineer Andrew Scheps, Bounce Factory was the first tool to make automated multi-pass bouncing practical for professionals. Scheps, who taught himself to code to solve the frustrations of his own workflow, transformed the way engineers deliver mixes and stems inside Pro Tools.

Now, with Bounce Factory 2, he’s done it again. Rebuilt for speed, simplicity, and accessibility, the new version is faster, easier to use, and more affordable than ever. Integrated directly inside Pro Tools through the SoundFlow panel, and leveraging SFX, Bounce Factory 2 launches instantly, no extra installation required.

With its guided flow, users can configure and label bounce passes in seconds, create custom mute, solo, or batch passes, and deliver final assets with unmatched precision. It’s professional automation, with a minimal and lightning-fast interface – designed by someone who knows exactly what professionals need.

SFX: A NEW TRANSFORMATIVE TECHNOLOGY FOR CROSS-PLATFORM AUTOMATION

Behind the deep integration of SoundFlow into Pro Tools lies years of technological development, culminating in the new SFX Framework from SoundFlow.

SFX is a generational new protocol and framework for modern automation. Engineered from the ground up to meet the creative industry's demand for microsecond-level, real-time performance, high reliability, robust security, minimal resource usage, and ease of implementation, it marks a true paradigm shift in the industry.

The framework is flexible at its core, allowing anything from DAWs to plugins to be controlled by SoundFlow and its users in an easy-to-get-started, highly customizable way. For plugin developers using JUCE or Qt, SFX comes with prebuilt, turnkey integrations. It is important to note that all UI frameworks, even custom ones, are supported.

Enabling SFX in an application or plugin grants full access to SoundFlow's tutorial system, macro and scripting engines, AI features, chat agents, and integrations with iPad, Android, and Stream Deck. This allows users to confidently and quickly create custom automated workflows across all the tools they use in their daily work.

SFX IN PRO TOOLS

The introduction of SoundFlow’s new SFX framework redefines how SoundFlow scripts communicate with Pro Tools, enabling direct integration with the Pro Tools interface and significant improvements in performance, stability, and responsiveness across all workflows.

Replacing and extending the legacy macOS Accessibility layer, SFX provides a faster, more reliable, and completely customizable link between SoundFlow and Pro Tools that no longer depends on Apple, for the first time bringing Windows support to Pro Tools automation. Together, these advances ensure SoundFlow’s automation tools can reach an even broader audience.

With SFX, SoundFlow provides access to many previously inaccessible UI elements in the Pro Tools user interface. These include the ability to select from pop-up menus without opening them, the option to bypass Open and Save dialogs, and most significantly, the elimination of the need for mouse and keyboard simulation and manual waits. All of these improvements contribute to a faster, more reliable, and seamless automation experience.

A SEAMLESS MIGRATION PATH TO MODERN AUTOMATION

SoundFlow Pro users can enable SFX on custom workflows to immediately experience increased performance, and the included Pro Tools commands, powered by SoundFlow, will leverage this unparalleled speed and reliability out of the box.

Existing scripts and macros made in previous versions of SoundFlow will continue to work in Pro Tools 2025.10. Users will be able to reap the benefits of the new SFX integration by adding just a single line of code to the start of a script.

NEW PRO TOOLS INTERACTIVE TUTORIALS—POWERED BY SOUNDFLOW

The new Learn panel houses interactive Pro Tools tutorials, powered by SoundFlow.

Tutorials in SoundFlow are interactive, context-aware learning experiences embedded directly within Pro Tools, powered by SFX. They’re not just static guides or pop-ups; these tutorials guide users through each step of the process, highlighting key areas on the screen, demonstrating actions, and pausing to allow the user to take part.

Because they run on the same automation framework as SoundFlow commands and flows, tutorials can guide the user by executing actions, adjusting parameters, and setting up environments automatically as part of the learning experience.

In practice, this means that new users can learn within Pro Tools, while professionals can explore faster, more intelligent workflows without ever breaking their creative flow.

The Learn panel tutorials can also be launched from the Pro Tools Dashboard.
