Avid Content Core 2026.9.29 — What's new?

This Avid Content Core release hands more of the background work to the platform. New services underneath the apps build thumbnails ahead of time, tell people when their media is ready, and give search and metadata a single source for how content is classified. On the surface, the landing page now shows your day, search finds what long file names were hiding, and a few new shortcuts save steps you take every day.

Let the platform do the legwork

This release adds a rules engine to Content Core. It's the first piece of a new automation layer that lets the platform react to events as they happen. It starts with one kind of rule, covered below, and more triggers and actions will follow in coming releases. Alongside it, new thumbnail and taxonomy services get more of the prep work done before anyone asks.

Know the moment your media is ready

No more refreshing the page to check whether your player proxy is ready. In the new Rules Editor, administrators can set a rule that tells a named user the moment it is.

A built-in rules simulator lets admins test expressions and rules against change events before switching them on. Every rule that runs, and the action it triggered, shows up in the Jobs app.

Thumbnails, ready before you are

When Content Core finishes analyzing a clip, it now generates the thumbnails for its content descriptions, markers, and transcript in one batch, so they can be in place before anyone opens it. In the Segments tab, each segment shows its first and last frame. If a thumbnail isn't ready yet, Content Core requests it on the spot and it appears a moment later.

One source for how content is classified

A new taxonomy service is now the single source for taxonomies across Content Core, and both Search and the Metadata tab draw from it. Search offers taxonomy entries as pills, and the Metadata tab displays taxonomy values in place of raw IDs. The core taxonomies you already use look and behave as they did. What's changed is underneath, and it lays the groundwork for organizations to add taxonomies of their own.

Find it faster

Search the names your cameras write

Camera cards and ingest systems love underscores. A file called HD14_HON_260315_BURANO_ALSJ_0003 used to count as one long word, so a search for “HD14” came back empty. Content Core now splits names on underscores as well as hyphens, so you can search for any part of that name and find the file.

See what's ready to play

Turn on Media Status in the Search app's display options and an icon shows whether each item has a proxy available. Place the column wherever it suits you.

Your day, on one page

My Day, on the landing page

The My Day view from the Tasks app now sits on the landing page, as cards or a grid. Double-click a regular task to open it in the Tasks app, or a review task to open it in Review and Approval. Right-click to copy a link, jump to the right app, or delete it.

Make the landing page yours

Switch on edit mode from the cog icon and arrange the landing page around the way you work. Hide the widgets you don't use, bring them back from the side panel whenever you want, and drag the rest into the order you want. Your layout is yours alone. Teammates keep their own.

Clear your selection in one click

Selected more than you meant to? Deselect clears every selected item on the landing page at once.

Small changes, fewer steps

Read PDFs without leaving Content Core

A new PDF viewer previews documents right inside the platform, with no download needed. For this release, an administrator sets it as the default app for the document asset type.

Duplicate a web editor project

Copy a project from the web editor's projects page or from inside the project itself. It's the quick way to try a second version without touching the first.

In preview: your Asset Management archive, connected

Customers running MediaCentral | Asset Management can now connect it to Content Core through MediaCentral. Metadata, head frames, and existing proxies sync across, and rules you define decide which assets come over. This is a preview, with known limitations listed in the release notes. It requires MediaCentral 2026.4.3 and the latest Asset Management hotfix. Talk to your Avid account team before you plan around it.

Why it matters

Some of this release you'll notice straight away: your day on the landing page, a file name that finally turns up in search. Much of it you won't see at all, and that's the part worth watching. Rules that act on events, thumbnails built ahead of time, and a single source for your taxonomies are what let Content Core take on more of the background work, release after release.
