BEST-IN-CLASS MPEG-H IMMERSIVE MIXING FOR BROADCAST AND BEYOND
(Pro Tools Studio and Ultimate only)
Pro Tools 2026.4 expands immersive production workflows with support for MPEG‑H, a growing immersive audio standard adopted by broadcasters across South America and Asia. Designed for modern broadcast and streaming delivery, MPEG‑H enables flexible, object‑based immersive audio experiences. In addition, MPEG-H makes it possible to define a wide range of interactive audio options during production, with personalization options like selectable immersive mixes, multiple languages, dialogue enhancement, and interactive spatial audio positioning.
With Pro Tools, creators can work with multiple immersive mixes inside a single session, eliminating the need to manage separate projects for different immersive formats. Pro Tools Studio and Ultimate include the free MPEG‑H Renderer plugin developed by Fraunhofer IIS that enables users to monitor and deliver immersive content directly within Pro Tools. The concurrent EUCON 2026.4 software release also introduces MPEG‑H support for Avid control surfaces.
MORE ACCURATE IMMERSIVE HEADPHONE MIXING WITH DOLBY HEADPHONE PERSONALIZATION
(Pro Tools Studio and Ultimate only)
Dolby Headphone Personalization arrives in Pro Tools 2026.4, delivering improved accuracy when mixing Dolby Atmos® on headphones. By using a custom‑measured Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF), Dolby Headphone Personalization reduces spatial errors and improves translation between headphone‑ and speaker‑based immersive systems.
Creators can generate a unique personalization profile using their phone’s camera and the free SoundID Tools mobile app by Sonarworks. This profile captures ear and head shape which is then loaded into Pro Tools to create a more precise binaural listening experience.
CREATE WITH MASSIVE X PLAYER AND PREMIUM SOUND CONTENT
(All Pro Tools versions—annual subscribers and customers with active perpetual upgrade plans additionally receive Lo‑fi & Chill Plucks and Haze expansion packs)
Pro Tools 2026.4 includes Massive X Player, bringing a powerful and iconic synth engine directly into Pro Tools. Massive X Player enables creators to design everything from aggressive basses and leads to evolving pads and cinematic textures.
All users receive Pro Tools Massive X Essentials, an exclusive expansion pack created for Pro Tools. Active customers also receive Lo‑fi & Chill Plucks and Haze expansion packs from Native Instruments—adding even more creative inspiration to every session.
INNER CIRCLE REWARDS FROM BOGREN DIGITAL AND CUT CLASSIC
Inner Circle is a rewards program for annual Pro Tools subscribers and customers with active perpetual upgrade plans that delivers free plugins, sounds, and more. Pro Tools 2026.4 includes two new Inner Circle rewards:
Bogren Digital Ampknob BDH III
Ampknob BDH III plugin delivers three variations of an era‑defining high‑gain tube guitar amplifier, providing album‑ready guitar tones with minimal setup.
Cut Classic Bad Math
Bad Math is an extreme tone‑shaping distortion plugin that blends multiband fuzz and overdrive into a creatively destructive effect—ideal for bold sound design and experimental production.
TRACK PINNING IN PRO TOOLS
Track pinning lets you choose one or more tracks and keep them fixed at the top of the Edit window. Once pinned, these tracks remain visible no matter where you scroll, allowing the rest of the session to move freely underneath. It’s a simple idea with a surprisingly wide impact on day‑to‑day workflows.
Large sessions often cause a lot of scrolling between tracks and folders, as well as temporarily pulling tracks out of their natural organizational structure just to work on them side by side. Track pinning reduces that overhead by letting you keep important tracks in sight at all times, so you can focus on the work rather than the window. Two common scenarios really highlight how useful this can be.
Guide Tracks
A frequent need for both music and post is to keep a guiding element visible while editing. This might be:
- A dialogue track showing the timing of a scene
- A vocal that provides phrasing cues
- A rough mix or editorial guide you’re aligning against
- A drum element that visually anchors the groove
- A key element you need visible while writing automation
All of these serve as visual orientation points. Pinning them ensures you always have that context, even when working deep in other parts of the session.
Editing Tracks That Don’t Live Together
There are plenty of situations where you need to edit two or more tracks against each other, but those tracks sit far apart in the session or inside different folder structures. Reorganizing the session just to bring them together can be disruptive and scrolling back and forth slows the work down.
Pinning keeps the relevant tracks right next to each other while you edit, which makes tasks like tightening bass and kick transients, aligning multitrack drums with a reference, syncing Foley or FX to production audio, or comparing parts across folders far more fluid.
The ability to pin groups lets you do this with entire sets of related tracks, and you can even create dedicated groups specifically for different pinning operations.
Track pinning keeps your most important tracks exactly where you need them, helping large sessions feel more manageable and making everyday editing noticeably smoother.

Available to Pro Tools Studio and Ultimate users, it enables object panning with MPEG-H and Audio Vivid renderers, including support for multichannel object sources up to 9.1.6. The new interface is simplified for speed, while still offering deeper creative control for advanced professional workflows.

- Supports object panning with MPEG-H and Audio Vivid renderers
- Handles mono & multichannel object sources up to 9.1.6
- Modernized UI with advanced creative flexibility
Important Compatibility Note
Pro Tools Immersive panner works currnelty with MPEG-H and Audio Vivid Renderer objects only and does not support Pro Tools mixer, Dolby Atmos or 360RA.
SPEECH-TO-TEXT IMPROVEMENTS
(Pro Tools Studio and Ultimate only)
In the 2025.6 release, we introduced the Pro Tools Speech-to-Text Engine, a powerful tool to transcribe spoken or sung audio content, enabling you to view, search, and edit by text. With Pro Tools 2026.4 we’ve further expanded this functionality with features such as passthrough of transcription data to newly created files (for example when using AudioSuite, Consolidate, Commit or Track Bounce), separating timeline clip selections by word, sentence or speaker, the ability to show and hide the transcription lane on a per-track basis, and more!
Transcription Passthrough
Transcription data now automatically transfers across to newly created files so it’s no longer necessary to re-transcribe after actions such as processing AudioSuite plugins, consolidating clips, committing tracks or selections, or using Track Bounce. Word timing data is retained, even if the selection doesn’t start or end on a clip boundary, or contains multiple clips.
Separate Timeline Selection by Word, Sentence or Speaker
In Pro Tools 2025.10 we added the ability to separate a clip in the Transcript window by word, sentence or speaker. In this release we have extended this feature to timeline selections, meaning you can now quickly split a selection that crosses multiple clips and/or tracks into individual words, sentences, or by speaker.
Show Transcription Lane per Track
The Track Transcription Lane view option is a global setting, so when enabled all tracks with at least one transcribed clip will by default display this additional lane. In Pro Tools 2026.4 we’ve added a “Show Transcription Lane” option to the track right-click menu providing you with the ability to only show the lane on specific tracks. It also works on multiple track selections, so if you’d prefer not to see transcription on all but one of your dialog or vocal tracks, select them all, right-click one of them, and uncheck “Show Transcription Lane”.
BATCH FILE RENAME
(Pro Tools Studio and Ultimate only)
It has long been possible to rename multiple clips and tracks at once in a Pro Tools session using the Batch Rename feature, but this did not provide an option to batch rename audio files directly on disk. In Pro Tools 2026.4, the Batch Clip Rename window has been furnished with a new “Rename Clip and Disk File” option to make renaming your file deliverables easy in one action, or use it to quickly clean up files en masse, or unify naming between clips and files.
When dealing with files directly, it is of course critical to ensure that no files end up with the same name, and that the necessary permissions are in place to perform the action. Pro Tools will therefore always run a preflight check before processing file name changes, and any problems identified will be flagged up.
Another important consideration is if the Clip List selection contains a mix of “Whole File” (parent) clips (the ones that appear in bold text) and “Subclips” (not bold). Because a single file can host multiple subclips, it is not permitted to rename disk files if there are any subclips contained in the selection. To make it easy to only show and process Whole File clips, new “Whole File Clips” and “Subclips” options have been added to the Clip List filter menu, along with dedicated shortcut toggles.
Here’s a quick look at the next set of featurettes and why they’re likely to become everyday favorites.
OTHER FEATURETTES AND ENHANCEMENTS
Duplicate Tracks Dialog Enhancements—decide what not to copy
- What’s new: The Duplicate Tracks dialog adds options to include/exclude Track Comments, Elastic Audio, and ARA assignments when duplicating tracks.
- Why it matters: Before this change, these elements were effectively copied by default—so users couldn’t easily duplicate a track *without* inheriting track comments or processing. Now you can duplicate a track’s structure while intentionally leaving out what doesn’t apply.
Track Commit + Extract MIDI to New Track—new Mute Source Track option
- What’s new: A Mute Source Track option is now available in both the Track Commit and Extract MIDI to New Track dialogs.
- Why it matters: Muting is the perfect middle ground: you can commit to audio (or extract MIDI) and immediately hear the result, while keeping the source track instantly available for quick A/B checks or edits—without the heavier “deactivate/reactivate” workflow.
Missing Plugins Dialog—export a text report
- What’s new: The Missing Plugins dialog can now save a text file report of what’s missing.
- Why it matters: When you receive a session from another studio or system, it’s much easier to get moving when you can generate a clean list of what you’re missing and share it with your team (or use it as an install checklist).
Solo Mode—now one right-click away
- What’s new: You can right-click the Solo Status button in the Edit Window toolbar to set Solo Mode.
- Why it matters: Solo behavior is something you often change “in the moment”—during editing, comping, or quick comparisons. Bringing Solo Mode closer to where you’re already working helps you stay in flow.
Favorite Elastic Audio and ARA plugin—faster track setup
- What’s new: You can set a favorite Elastic Audio and favorite ARA plugin right from the track’s Elastic Audio/ARA selector.
- How: Command-click (Mac) or Control-click (Windows) the Elastic Audio or ARA plugin you want to mark as a favorite.
- Why it matters: If you rely on the same time/pitch or ARA workflow repeatedly, favoriting reduces setup time and helps keep sessions consistent—especially when you’re creating lots of tracks quickly.
Grid Lines Brightness + Opacity—clearer edits in any theme
- What’s new: The UI Customization window now includes controls for grid line brightness and opacity in both Grid Mode and Non-grid Mode.
- Why it matters: Grid visibility is a real editing tool. These controls let you tune the grid for your monitor, lighting, and theme—so alignment work stays precise and comfortable. Pro Tools already supports showing/hiding grid lines and Grid Mode editing—this simply gives you more control over how visible that guide is.
