In a movie filled with revving 1,000-horsepower engines, two-time Oscar®-winning re-recording mixer Gary Rizzo, CAS, faced a unique challenge: making dialogue and music cut through the chaos. The catch? Over 90% of the communication in the film occurs over the compressed, crackling sound of radio headsets. To solve it, Rizzo took an intricate approach—designing multiple “futz” profiles for different perspectives, each specifically tuned to feel authentic while remaining comfortable to listen to. In this video, Rizzo explains how these subtle sonic shifts keep the story intelligible at 200 miles per hour, so the audience never misses a beat.

Mixing Sound Effects for F1® The Movie | Behind the Scenes with Juan Peralta

Re-recording mixer Juan Peralta of Skywalker Sound needed to deliver a level of authenticity that would satisfy die-hard F1 fans without overwhelming the eardrums of casual moviegoers. Working with input from Sir Lewis Hamilton, Peralta ensured every rev, gear shift, and braking point was grounded in reality down to the millisecond, while still delivering the kind of thrill that makes the audience grip their seat.
