AudioSuite in Pro Tools

AudioSuite lets you apply effects directly to audio clips in an offline, destructive way—meaning Pro Tools renders a new version of the clip with the chosen processing permanently applied. It’s a fast and efficient way to commit edits, clean up sections, or apply creative effects to specific moments without adding more plugins to your session.

Unlike real-time inserts, which process audio during playback, AudioSuite effects are rendered only once, creating a new clip that replaces or supplements the original. This helps reduce CPU load while giving you precise control over exactly where and how an effect is used.

How AudioSuite Works

  1. Select your clip(s): Highlight one or more clips in the Edit window.
  2. Open AudioSuite: Go to Window > AudioSuite and choose an effect from the drop-down menu.
  3. Adjust settings: Tweak parameters just like a plugin.
  4. Preview and Render: Use the Preview button to audition the effect, then click Render to create a new processed clip.

Each render creates a new file on disk—so your original clip remains available in the Clip List if you want to revert.

When to Use AudioSuite

  • Fixing problem areas: Remove clicks, pops, or unwanted noise in a single clip without affecting the entire track.
  • Creative sound design: Reverse, pitch-shift, or time-stretch clips to create unique textures or effects.
  • Commit processing: Print effects like EQ, compression, or normalization to free up CPU and keep your session lightweight.
  • Batch processing: Apply the same effect to multiple selected clips all at once.

AudioSuite Effect Types

AudioSuite supports most real-time plugin types, including:

  • EQ and Filters
  • Dynamics (Compression, Limiting, Expansion)
  • Reverb and Delay
  • Pitch and Time
  • Noise Reduction and Restoration
  • Modulation and Harmonic effects

You can even use third-party AudioSuite-compatible plugins, giving you a powerful range of offline processing options.

Tips for Using AudioSuite

  • Use “Create Individual Files” when processing multiple clips to keep each one distinct.
  • Choose “Use in Playlist” to automatically replace the source clip with the rendered version.
  • Keep your originals: Disable “Use in Playlist” if you want to compare processed and unprocessed versions.
  • Combine with Clip Effects: Use Clip Effects for subtle real-time tone shaping, then commit heavier processing with AudioSuite.
