Creating templates

Templates in Pro Tools help you streamline your workflow by saving session configurations like tracks, plugins, and routing for future use. Pro Tools includes built-in templates for different workflows, such as music production, podcasting, and post-production. You can choose from these templates in the Dashboard or create custom templates tailored to your specific needs, allowing you to start new projects quickly without repetitive setup tasks. Here’s how to create and save your own templates:

Creating a custom template in Pro Tools

Follow these steps to create a custom template in Pro Tools:

1. Set Up Your Session:

Create a session with the tracks, plugins, and routing you’d like to include in your template. For example, you might create a session with a stereo instrument track, a vocal track, and an effects bus if you frequently record as a singer-songwriter.

2. Save As Template:

Once your session is configured, go to File > Save As Template....

3. Organize Your Template:

In the Save As Template dialog, choose a category to organize your template. You can select from existing categories (like Recording, Mixing, etc.) or create your own.
You also have the option to save the template to a specific location on your computer by selecting Select Location for Template.
