Muting clips
In Pro Tools, you can mute clips to silence their playback without affecting the rest of your session. Muted clips are dimmed, making it easy to see which clips are muted. This is useful when editing or auditioning different parts of your project. Here’s how to mute or unmute clips:
Steps to Mute or Unmute a Clip
1. Select the Clip(s):
Use the Time Grabber tool to select the clip or clips you want to mute or unmute. You can select clips across multiple tracks.
2. Mute the Clip(s):
Go to the top menu and choose Edit > Mute/Unmute. Once muted, the clip will become dimmed, indicating it is no longer playing back. To unmute, repeat the same steps.
Shortcut for Muting Clips
To quickly mute or unmute a clip, use the following keyboard shortcut:
- Mac: Press Command + M
- Windows: Press Control + M
This will instantly mute the selected clip, and it will be grayed out to indicate its muted status. You can unmute the clip by selecting it again and pressing the shortcut once more.
