Record enabling tracks

To record audio in Pro Tools, you’ll need to Record Enable the track(s) you want to capture audio on. Record enabling a track prepares it to receive and record audio, and you can enable one or multiple tracks with a single action.

How to Record Enable a Track

To Record Enable a single track, click the Record Enable button (red button) in the track header in either the Mix or Edit Window. The button will blink red, indicating that the track is ready for recording.

Record Enable Multiple Tracks

If you want to enable recording for multiple tracks at once, follow these steps:

1. Select Multiple Tracks: Hold Shift and click on each track you want to include.

2. Record Enable: Use the Record Enable button on one of the selected tracks.

Input Monitoring

When recording in Pro Tools, Input Monitoring lets you hear the live audio coming into the track. This feature is useful for monitoring your performance before and during recording.

1. To enable Input Monitoring: Click the "I" button next to the Record Enable button on the track header in the Mix or Edit Window. The "I" button will light up, allowing you to hear the input signal before recording.

2. After recording: Turn off Input Monitoring by clicking the "I" button again. This disables the live input and lets you listen to the recorded audio instead, making it easy to review and edit your take accurately.
